There was an Irish girl who is living and working illedally in New York on our local radio today talking about illegal immigrants in the USA.

She mentioned the Kennedy Kerry Visa and the hope that if this visa was set up illegal immigrants could come forward pay a fine of $2000 and have to keep a clean record for 6 years before qualifying for a green card.

With the number of illegals running into the tens of thousands this could be a good source of revenue for the government at $2000 a pop plus these workers would then all become tax payers and add to the country rather than staying illegal.

There is a large rally organised for Washington on Saturday 8th March with large numbers of illegal immigrants intended to go and lobby for the Visa.

Have you any thoughts on the matter, other than the obvious, have immigration officers out in force in Washington that day and arrest all the ones with Irish accents.

Most of us Americans have Irish or German in our blood...the only problem I have with "foreigners" coming to live in America are those that get to do so without having to pay taxes, etc. etc. and those that require that we change all our recorded phone messages, paperwork, etc. etc. to their languages...like Mexicans for example...that I cannot stand and unfortuately that, and a number of other reasons, has made me prejudice against mexicans. Not necessarily proud of that, but hey, at least I'm honest.

All I have to say about the situation is this:
Let whoever wants to come here come here, but they should speak English or learn it immediately, pay taxes just like the rest of us and of course every foreigner should be checked somehow for terrorism potential.

Everyone has the potential for terrorism to one degree or another I have read.

I 've also been told that there are more people speak Spanish in the USA than actually speak English.

I fully agree with the paying taxes point. Everyone should pay tax and the loopholes for those at both the top and the bottom to avoid taxes need to be addressed. Hugh companies avoiding tax or illegals getting less than then minimum wage avoid tax all makes it harder for us legal folk who pay through the nose.

I like that idea!! If my family and me can immigrate here LEGALLY then so should they! If not then get lost!

I don't know the rules regarding immigration to the USA having never had the inclination to live there. But the girl on the radio told of applying 5 times for a green card and paying $ everytime without sucess.

It's obvious there must be restrictions that have been avoided as there are tens of thousands in the US illegally. Why not get them under control AND make a lot of revenue for the country?

Actually I think the estimate for the number of illegal immigrants in the US is in the millions. Nothing will ever be done about because a lot of money is alredy being made off of these people from business that exploit them for cheap labor.

Rather than allow so many illegals to stay in the country and be abused by business why don't the government go with this idea of them paying a $2000 fine and then having them under control.

They should have no rights to drain the country by claiming benefits but could pay their taxes. This would stop tax abuse by businesses.

Or does business govern the USA rather than the elected government?

I doubt very many could afford to pay $2000 fine.

It's beginning to dawn on me that business probably does govern here.

One solution I read about is a guest worker program. I don't know why that hasn't been done.

Sorry for not coming back sooner. I was watching a debate on TV between some Senators over the proposed bill.

They agree there are 11 million illegals in the USA.

One of the main benefits of getting these folks registered is the security aspect. By getting all illegals with proper fool proof ID they will know who IS in the USA.

JEZUS Bin Laden might be holed up there working as a bus boy in a New York diner.

Both sides agree that they cannot send the 11 million home because the country can't function without them.

What sort of mess is the US economy in that it relies on people being abused by business paying them slave wages to function.

It made very interesting viewing.
