There isn't a whole helluva lot to go on.

Sounds like the kid was smacking god-only-knows-what and the male partner was yelling at him to stop it.

There's no explanation for the "Four red dots."

And I can't tie in why being too hot for PJ's had anything to do with this.

Sounds like the kid dropped dead from Scarlett Fever.

Perhaps sum vewy vewy vewy cwever goose out there is testing waters for angwy pichfork-weilding mobs?

Very, very sad. There are certainly horrible people in this world.

Changing directions a bit... Now, I'm curious... In Australia, how do murder and manslaughter convictions work? Are these charges pretty stern, or a slap-on-the-wrist...

Well Banana,by the way the story read "she heard loud banging sounds",I'll presume the bastard was throwing the poor kid up against the wall or even banging his head against the wall ,either way,the little bloke was 4 and he wet the bed,is that a crime worthy of being treated the way he was or killed for????? I don't think so,but I'll bet all the bananas in New Zealand, his face and arse aren't prepared for what will happen to him once the big boys inside get hold of him

Nah Marbles, our judicial system is beyond a joke really, for instance,if someone breaks into our home and we beat the living s*** out of them or kill them,we can be charged with Assault or Murder, just like any other country .
But our biggest gripe is when they go to court, the judges have proven on many occasions that they don't have a grip on reality when it comes to sentencing, some will commit horrific murders (like this one) and some brain dead judge will sentence them to 10yrs with a non parole period of 5,although I do believe man slaughter only comes into it if the death wasn't intentional,BUT,convince me a 4 yr old in this case had a chance against a 23yr old?.

A MAN has pleaded guilty in a Sydney court to killing his partner's four-year-old son.

The man, 23, appeared in the Supreme Court in Sydney on Monday where he pleaded not guilty to murdering the child near Dubbo in central western NSW on April 1, 2011.

However he pleaded guilty to manslaughter and this plea was accepted by the Crown.

The boy's mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, sobbed in court as she described how her son wet his bed that night and her partner insisted on going up to him because he was the "father figure".

She then heard four loud bangs and the man saying "stop it" in an "angry, agitated" voice, she told the court.

When she went upstairs to the bathroom, the mother said, "(the child) took a step towards me and fell to his knees".

When she changed his nappy and asked him if he wanted to wear pyjamas, the mother said the boy replied, "No mummy, it's too hot".

"He was hot to touch. He was glassy-eyed," the woman said.

The man then told her to "f*** off" and she went downstairs, she said.

"I was scared ... because of the previous physical violence to each other," she said.

A few minutes later after the man had returned downstairs, he went back up to check on the child and then called for the mother to come quickly.

The little boy was lying on his back with "four red dots" on his forehand, the woman said through her tears.

"All I could do was scream out his name," she said.

The child had suffered significant head injuries and he died later in hospital.

The court heard there was evidence the child had previously suffered injuries at the hands of the man and that the woman initially lied to police about what happened that night.

The sentence hearing continues before Justice Elizabeth Fullerton.

Naw, what I meant is that this current report hasn't revealed enough information yet....wetting the bed may have been result of his fever as well.

"The child had suffered significant head injuries and he died later in hospital."

Ah! Here's the bit I missed.

At first I thought the kid had Scarlett Fever and the 'manslaughter' bit was for not getting the child to hospital in time.

f*** the guy. The woman was responsible for her son. If there were indeed previous instances of abuse, she failed that child in the worst way.

Disgrace, she (the mother) was aware of previous violence and she allowed him to tell her to get out of the room so she obliged? Yes, she failed him
