This is going to sound extremely arrogant of me, but I'll say it anyway: I have been assigned to a multitude of incompetent people in the past. Just thinking about them pisses me off. Of course, there are a few people who I genuinely enjoyed working with, but for the most part I would much rather work alone rather than with others. I have observed two types of awful project members... First , we have the ones who don't do anything and make you do all the work. These are the most common ones, and unless the teacher actually gives a damn, they leech off of your hard work and receive better grades than they deserve. I believe most, if not all, of use reading this post has had experiences with these types of people.
The second type pisses me off even worse than the first. They're the ones that don't let you do anything and act like you're too stupid or inept to do anything right. Then when they do it, they screw up. -_- Come on, it's a privilege to get assigned with people who are actually willing to work. Plus, if you're going to hog all the work, at least do it properly without messing up.
I think "working" with these kinds of people turned me into the extreme introvert I am today... | |

| I always hated it too. I found other people just held me back so I always just broke off from the group and worked independently anyway. They're not exactly going to give you detention for wanting to work on your own. |

| well , i've got news for you chicken 'you meet exactly the same people in work too . i experinced those conditions for 25 years in one job ...but now i work somewhere else and 95% of my work is done alone and i'm judged on my own .it means i have to do a good job (as does everyone)or i'm hauled into the office to account for my lack of performance . the only answer is to turn into a snitch and highlight the others lack of performance ... but if you do that you'll be unpopular and also put yourself under pressure to be perfect at all times . |

| yes the world is cruel .... but it's good that you've recognized this as a personal source of angst for you ,because now you might want to consider a career where you work more as an individual ... |

| I hated these projects in High School and I agree with you 100% on this. I would rather work by myself!
I am a military brat and of course my parents basically get very upset if I get anything below a B on ANYTHING. I was a B student in High School and got SOME A's but anyways...
I was assigned to be with this guy right? Well of course he is part of the first group that you are talking about. He didn't do SQUAT! But if course If I do'nt do anything my parents are going to go ape on me if I get a big fat 0 on anything. Well I don't remember how it happened but the teacher found out that he wasn't doing jack on the project and I was doing all the work. She made us go to the Library and made a Teacher's Aide come with us to make sure he did half the work on the project too. I'm one of those people that don't like to tell on people either so I was kind of relunctant to get him in trouble for it. Although it wasn't fair at all that I was going to be the one to get a grade. I do not work well in groups AT ALL! I hate when teachers pair us up with people like that.
oh and now get this. In college the teacher pairs us up with people from his online class. We are suppose to do this project that is suppose to take ALL SEMESTER to do right? I keep e-mailing my partner but I don't get a response back from her. Only to find out that my e-mails weren't going through. So now It is only like 3 weeks into the semester but I was like, okay I had better start it and see what happens because I do not want to get a 0 on the project. The teacher told us that if we do not hear from our people, that he would threaten them and then if that didn't work that he would pair us up with the other people in the class.
So yeah in conclusion I totally agree with you. I would rather work alone than work with other people on a project. |
