Would you make your children follow that religion even if they didnt want to???

Being responsible through someone else's judgment. Hmmmm... doesn't work. But people learn communication with endless reproduction.

I dont have a religion and I dont believe at all but my kids really wanted to go to Sunday school. I guess it would hurt them so I let them go. Then when they got older the choice was theres

I would let my son choose for himself. I have a grandmother who is Jewish, and mother who is metaphysical, a bio-dad who is pagan and my sons father's mother is Christian, so he will have all those influences in his life... I will support whatever decision he makes. In the mean time I will not let the other family members force their religion, or belief system on him, as to influence or tell him he will "go to hell" if he doesn't choose their religion.

One cannot force anyone to follow True Christianity. It is something which has to be a personal and informed decision. The best you can do is teach your kids about it, and then when they are old enough let them make their own decisions.

However you cannot let their decision, if adverse, affect your own dedication to True Christianity, however much it will hurt.

off course your going to raise your kids along the lines of your beliefs but when they are old enough to make a descion weather they wish to practice your religion then it should be purely up to them. As long as their happy who cares what God they do or do not believe in?

if i ever have kids, they would go to sunday schools, and learn the tradition of judaism. as a parent would ask my kids to teach their children the tradition of our belief. but after that my kids choose whether they want. that my parents did for me. i think religion is a choose, if anything. if my kids believe in religion strong enough to practice the faith, i will not stop them.

I don't follow religion, but I do allow my ex to take him to Sunday school. I want him to have options available so that he can make the choice of what works best for him.

If I followed a religion (and was still the same person that I am), I would probably want my children to at least attend enough of my religion's services/classes to get the basics.

I do not, however, follow a religion (anymore)... so, what I do and have done with my children is to allow them to go to attend and/or worship any religion/god that they choose.

I have strongly suggested (and pushed as hard as I could) that they: 1) study all religions, so that they can objectively decide what they really believe, 2) specifically research any particular religion/religious sect that they like, as they should be prepared for whenever they are confronted by a cult, and 3) study science.

My children have followed my guidance and studied comparative theology from both a historical and theological perspective. They seem very grounded. They have gone with friends to religious services of a number of different religions and (as far as I can tell) are intelligent and tolerant of peoples of all faiths.

They seem to frown on ignorance and intolerance, and laugh at cultists.... which makes me happy.

I would think that if you've made a commitment to a religon yourself - you did so for a "reason" or after careful research and/or prayer... whatever you used to come to the conclusion that this is the direction you wanted to go. As a parent, after getting to that place for yourself, it's natural to teach that belief system to your kids. You would want to share it with them and have them experience all that it brings to your life.

I was fortunate to be exposed to several different beliefs growing up and encouraged to study, learn and read about many others. I actually DID check out many other beliefs and practices for myself and I kept coming back to the faith that my parents chose and have remained there.

I think a key element to all of this is that as a parent you would teach and expect your children to be respectful and tolerante of any and all belief systems that are out there. So at the end of the day - it isn't necessarily a matter of "forcing" your kids into a religion they don't want or understand - but that at some point you allow for them to decide for themselves and while it may not be what you want (which can/will be for many decisions they'll make in their lives) you can be loving and gracious enough to accept that it's the decision they've made for themselves and go on from there.

I would let my kids know that telepathy might actually be real.

I would suggest to my kids that they can learn faster by drawing knowledge from the air simply by using their imagination to pretend they are teachers teaching loved ones about subjects that they want to learn.

I would warn my kids about reality disassociation and explain to them that most science fiction and art was inspired by alternative reality philosophies and also suggest that it is best to focus their intelligence on subjects that will help others rather than focusing it on 'What If's' UNLESS they come to find that by understanding all the 'What If's' will, in turn, serve to help others.

From there I would no longer encourage or discourage religion or philosophy.

Absolutely not.
When I was a God-believer, one of my beliefs was that for a person to trully know God they must believe out of their own living experiences, noy by the reports of others.
