Do you think parents are losing control of there kids or do you think parents just cant be bothered pulling them up?

Just an example of what I mean. I was in the supermarket the other day and this kid was having a major hissy fit because his mum wouldnt but him a freddo frog. He was screaming, stamping his feet, kicking her and hitting her. Then he started pulling stuff off the shelves. He was just going feral. She quietly giggled and said dont please. He was not listening. Mind you this all went on for about 20mins. After all that she said he could have the choc frog. Then all of a sudden this feral kid turned into an angel. You would think butter wouldnt melt in his mouth. After they left the supermarket said over the speaker clean up in aisle 6. This is an every day thing kids going nuts, running around, speaking rude to not only there parents but anyone. You know what most of the time parents do nothing. They just continue to read there books, keep talking to there friends or sit there on there asses drinking there dam coffee.

For everyone around these kids it can be unbearable. FFS do something get a grip of your kids. Please.
Why do they let ther kids act this way? I would never let my kids behave like that.
At an early age my kids and there friends knew how to act in public. If my kids ever did be naughty when we were out it would be a smack on the butt and straight home and in there rooms. No if buts about it..

Have you seen kids act this way in public?
And Why do you think parents are letting them get away with this behaviour?
Do you think its just laziness or is it because they just dont really care thats why they just let them run a muck?

There are parents that are lazy. There are parents that want to be their kids friends. Either one is NOT the way to go when they are young. You are the parent FIRST, then friends. The one in the situation you mentioned, IMO, sounds lazy as hell.

That kid freaks out because he gets away with it over and over. She is going to have a hell of a time with him when he's a teen.

My kids learned(as did myself as a kid) that throwing a tantrum does not work, EVER. If they are told "No", it's no. They know that when we go out shopping, it's not a free for all for them and I am buying what I planned to get.

Their sweets are limited, since my son is a naturally hyper child(ADHD) so they know not to ask for them when we go out.

The odd time when my youngest doesn't listen in the store(begins to run on ahead, starts to touch everything, making too loud of noises) he's given a warning that he will have a time-out when we get home. Believe me, he has had a few of them. Ninety percent of the time though, he behaves.

I too, have seen far too many kids freakout when shopping with their parents and then the parents give in to stop the tantrum. "Way to go Mom and Dad. You are just adding to your kids bratty attitude."

I was pretty s***ty when I didn't get my way but I never slapped my parents or tore up the store we were in.

My parents were much too old for the tough love thing so to take the stress off themselves they usually gave in.

I ended up growing up to be prodigal - The only fault I could lay on my parents however was having me too late in their life.

You can't explain this stuff to a child that age.

I used to think that scarecrow tactics were the more humane alternative to physically punishing children but studying myself I realized how that later leads to psychological issues.

Passive Aggressiveness seems the most risky and desperate of alternatives because the child could wind up murdering someone during the process.

I think parents should not only stop trying for children after their mid thirties but should also take their genes and emotional issues throughout their family into consideration as well.

I agree parent first friend as well. You have think the same as I do. These parents need to know the magic word NO and stick to it. The kids will learn No means no.
My favorite saying if my kids (there teens now) kick up a stink about me saying no is what part of no dont you understand the N or the O.
They hate it when I say that lol

Yes for an older parent it would be harder as they dont have the energy as the younger ones do. The really young mums can have a smoke and soft drink in one hand, push a pram and grab there kid as there about to take off. Multi tasking to the max lol

Some parents are lazy yeah but the way the poltically correct do gooders are taking over they are making it almost impossible to punish or displine kids these days. It's not just parenting it's in the schools to.

These days kids know they can get away with pushing the rules (the schools actually tell them what they can get away with). I've got a mate who one day said to his son "if you don't get out of bed on time for school then I'll pour a bucket of water on you" the kid said "what if the elecrtic blanket is on?" he replied "Too bad", the dad then got dragged into school conuciling because his son went to school and told them "dad said he was going to elecrcute me".

It's getting to the point where the kids make the rules these days because anything the parent does or says is made out to be abuse by over-reacting morons who get some idea that giving little Johnny a quick smack on the arse is abuse.

I'd hate to have kids these days. Seriously. They are marketed to incessantly, catered to beyond realistic expectations, coddled to the point of uselessness - at every turn.

Plus, there isn't a whole lot of actual community support for parents. I don't think people are even taught how to be parents anymore.

Part of it is the fact that both parents need to work, so they are too tired to deal with the fulltime job that is raising kids on top of that. It wasn't the case decades ago, when one parent stayed at home to focus on raising kids.

Smacking on the butt is effective, yes, but also detrimental to emotional well being. The best way I would have dealt with the situation is simply pick up the child and left the store, going next time without the child, as he clearly lost his privilege. And lost anything I would have bought for him if he went along and behaved.

Good for you. Only those who are willing to sacrifice loads of time, energy, and resources should have kids.

I absolutely agree. I realized what it would take to be a parent and I made sure I wouldn't be one. I wish more would take a similar stance. It's not like there's a shortage of people running around. Parenting takes a lot of resources and time. It's a huge sacrifice. Not everyone is up to it.

I was just thinking the other day of all the hurdles that immigrants have to go through just to gain legal status and reside in the U.S., part of which entails proving that you won't be a burden to the state financially or criminally. Adding population to the U.S. is taken very seriously in that regard. If only adding it via belting out babies was taken as seriously...

I would NEVER cave in to a fit like that. I would take my kid by the arm, we'd leave the store immediately, go home and the child would get a time out.
