So you vote for the lesser of two evils even though it isn't what would be best for the country because you know that what's best doesn't have a snowball's chance of getting elected?

At that point (the snowballs chance) I consider it not voting the lesser of two evils or even the evil of two lessers- normally there is enough of a difference that I am then voting for what's best for the country.

Then, as I said, you are part of the exacerbation in that you do not show support for the person whom you do truly support. You hedge your bets and enable people like Romney or Obama.

Bulls***.
I've have and do support the candidate of my choice. But when it get's down to breaking up the two party system you'll not be doing that by voting for a third party candidate if it gets the worst person in office. If the better of the two party system is going to win- I do and have voted for the person I prefer.

I'm not so selfish as to think that my choice has to trump all others especially when it means that choice would put the opposite of what I believe into office.

No, not really. You're still basically saying that even though I think this person is the best choice, I shouldn't vote for that person because he won't get enough votes, so I should choose someone who is not as good because he has a better chance of winning.

That's not what I said. I said "I" "Me" votes for third party candidates if the two party candidate most likely to win is most closely aligned with my beliefs. If the two party candidate that is most likely to win- one that I cannot support I do not make a selfish vote for my choice who is not going to win, I vote instead for what I feel is best for the country.

Agreed. I'm sure a lot of people regretted voting for Nader when it put Bush in office.

Twas one of 'em.
I've learned my lesson.
The time to fight for third party candidates is before the primaries & the general election!

Or when they actually have a chance, such as Perot before he chickened out late summer and lost his admiration and respect.

Really what needs to be done is to bust up the two party system and let everyone play with a equal footing.

Well we are kind of limited in what we can do, as the winner-takes all system that our constitution set up naturally settles into a two party system - a dominant party and opposing party.

However, campaign finance reform can redistribute power out of lobbyists and back to the voting population, and result in better representation of the people even if that representation still remains primarily from two parties.

We need something more than the stalemate we have now for sure.
And don't forget,

I know I'll be attacked here for saying this, but I truly believe it's the only reason why America doesn't have the "socialist" measures that Europe has. If the people's vote truly did count here as they do there, we would have had universal health care long ago.

Vote for me!!!

I'll make "choose an avatar theme friday" mandatory, and we'll all have to wear costumes instead of just changing our pix on TFS.
