Carly's Mommy

Underneath the Cyanide Sun....
#1New Post! May 26, 2012 @ 13:51:57
I didn't ever think I'd be that mom, but I really do think I'm going to block Cartoon Network as soon as Carly gets into watching TV.

I used to watch some shows on that channel (Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, The Misadventures of Flapjack, etc.) but now I turn it on and it's all these shows that are getting a little inappropriate.
Like the one show "Adventure Time"? I caught a glimpse of it and it's definitely not child appropriate as it comes off. There's mild language (sucks and friggin' and some references I wouldn't think I'd find in a kids show. One about boobies and a LOT about poop. Supposedly the age group is 7-10 year olds.

And a lot of the shows featured on there make me think of things I'd see during an acid trip

Its not the same any more. Also loads of parents I know said their kids became better behaved when stopped from watching cartoon network.

Now to be fair it could be that withdrawing the TV as babysitter and engaging with the child produces better behaviour.

Having said that nobody is a super parent and sometimes you need the TV babysitter in order to cook or shower. Choose wisely, children learn an awful lot in a very short space of time. Ever know something and not know how you know it?

My daughter liked tots TV and rosie and jim (although the bearded man who lived with the puppets was questionable) and pingu. My son liked bob the builder.

I loved the muppets.

i think anything in 60's and 70's cartoons are very appropiate for kids, these days. there were probably more censorship back then today. occasionally, i will watch some of my old favorite childhood cartoons. from the 80's to today's cartoons are teaching more family values and education lessons to children, and where the censorship is more lean or strictly than ever before. when i was growing up watching saturday morning's cartoons were fun, and my parents need not to worry about what i watched. i remember getting up and watching on tv at 6:30am on saturday morning until 1:00pm. i might have learn something from the cartoons back then, but i remember i laughed more, it was one of my favorite childhood's memories.

I miss the old Bugs Bunny cartoons. Not the remake bulls*** they did in the 80s or whenever. But the old stuff 50-60 years ago. Those were quality.

I swear I'm going to buy all the old cartoons that played when I was younger for my kids and let them watch that instead of the cartoon these days. I don't even understand half of them.

I saw an episode of that the other day, not the type I used to watch but a lame redone version where the big issue was them being broke and jobless...not being little kids with superpowers fighting evil.

I've been saying this for years... a lot of the content in cartoons today is directed more for the entertainment of the adults than for the kids.

Yes and no. I enjoy Bugs Bunny and shows like the Muppets every bit as much as an adult as I did as a child.

And then there's Spongebob that actually makes kids less able to learn.
