Seriously.... it's not so much of a joke as it may appear. Officially, a drought has been declared in many parts of the south east of England, including London.

After a very dry summer last year, and the driest winter since records began, hosepipe bans were introduced as a first water conservation measure in March of this year and the water authorities have expressed serious concern about the low levels of water reserves.

The government has started to discuss, in Parliament, what can be done about the developing emergency.

And then, all of a sudden, three weeks of almost continuous rain has fallen in the region in late April / early May. Even this though, is not enough to completely alleviate the problem. It's helped... but we need more rain to get water stocks back up. Lots more...... And a dry, hot summer is forecast.

I posted the picture just for the irony of it. It is just so typically British.

You'd have thought, as a f***ing island, we'd have figured out a way to not have droughts...

Water, water everywhere, nor any drop to drink.

That's not as daft as it sounds, either. Back in the 1970's, when Britain was skint and had to go to the IMF for a bailout, the Ugandan dictator Idi Amin offered to give Britain a loan out of his own bank account, and to send us all the spare bananas they had.

I'm only surprised the Labour government of the day didn't take him up on it.
