Most people my age that I know have grown to like their siblings as they've got older.

I really can't stand my brother and I can't see us ever getting along. We don't argue as such but you know when some people just annoy you no matter what they do? I get that with him.

Is it normal to just... not get along, ever, with a sibling?

What ever normal is? There is no law that you have to get on with him, but then you've only got one brother, why would you want to not get along with him?

It just happenes sometimes. That's a fact of life.

I'm wondering how old he is though; and am thinking he will most likely grow out of his irritating ways. So don't give up hope just yet.

Sometimes people just don't get on, I think that is pretty normal. You don't have to like someone to love them, and maybe as you grow older and leave home/see less of each other you'll find you don't mind him as much.

My friends get on with their siblings, but they have interests and hobbies in common, so they are friends as well as siblings.

My brother is still a child, so I don't think of him as a friend. And I do not always get on with him, he is annoying a lot of the time.

I have 4 brothers all older than me and I get along brilliantly with them all, even more so once we stopped living under the same roof

Just because you're siblings doesn't make it impossible that you guys simply have clashing personalities.

I get along great with my brother but I have a step-sister I just can't stomach. It HASN'T changed with age!

Amen. Yes! Twas me and my sister!

We get along brilliantly now though. I'd give her my kidney today whereas in the past I'd have run her over in the street. lol

Some siblings will never get along, some siblings get along all the time, and others are a mix of both.

My oldest brother and I always got along and still do. My other older brother and I used to fight a lot, and yes things definitely have improved now that we're older.

When he went to college and stayed in the dorms we got along a lot more, but then he'd come home for a weekend and we'd be arguing again. Now that we live apart rather permanently we hardly argue, even when in the same house.

I think it has a lot more to do with living together/apart than it does with age. If he bothers me while we're visiting my mother I know he's going to be leaving at some point that night so I deal with it more patiently. When you're always with someone who does something that annoys you, it lingers more.

With the youngest of my brothers, we were inseparable! either because we were hanging out or joined by handfuls of each others hair

It was the opposite for my sister and i, when we lived at home together we got on like two peas in a pod, but now later in life with families of our own we barely if ever speak.

In some parts of the world is is actually encouraged to hate your opposite sexed sibling, probably an old tradition dating back to when we had a smaller population so that inbreeding would not occur. So, I really would not worry too much about it.

You can still love someone and dislike them at the same time and just because they are family it doesn't mean they have to be in your life, especially if its uncomfortable for you. Nothing wrong with how you feel.

I agree with Elza, you can love someone and dislike them!

The brother that is right under me and I fought all the time! We get along great as long as we aren't living together. He would even call me for advise etc. but now that I moved back home we argue constantly.

My youngest brother and I have always had a great relationship. We will hang out all the time together, even more so now that we are older. I wasn't around much for his childhood because i was in college so i guess i was always the cool big sister that comes home and takes me out on adventures.

Unlike friends you can't choose your family which is unfortunate.

I found, since I've gotten older...looking back in retrospect,..that my sister and I didn't get along so well because we were in fact 'too' much alike! We just showed it in totally opposite ways; and sought out completely different type friends.

Now that we are older, and actually 'communicate' our thoughts and feelings, it's often like listening to myself talk, and vice versa half the time.
Sort of frightening.
