The local and federal government's reaction to the widespread illegality destroying the Amazon is slow and inadequate! Greenpeace is calling for a Zero Deforestation Law in Brazil. 300 communities and multiple generations are demanding implementation on the laws governing their "already protected" reserve! Many of the communites rely on the rainforest as well as many of the endangered species that call the Amazon home!

I made a difference...Will you?

No worries. The Amazon rainforest will be almost completely replaced by dry forest and shrub within the next 100 years, thanks to climate change.

If everyone does their part in being proactive and keeping our world green, then we may have something to look forward to in the future. If we don't try then we are throwing away the world!

I have to confess to not understanding whether that's intended as an "it doesn't matter", or what answer(?)

How much rain forest has been lost since the Earth went into a cold cycle and such matters?

It doesn't matter whether people chop down the trees in the Amazon, since they'll mostly be dying in the next century anyway.

In the last 30 years Brazil has lost over 232,000 square miles of rainforest! Thats an area larger than Greece!

That's a selfish mentality. There's the future generations to think about.

It's not selfish, it's the truth. Climate change will with virtual certainty cause a significant shrinking of the Amazon rainforest. There's no stopping it.

And, surely, the planet has lost an enormous amount through it's own cold cycle. Putting human efforts effecting climate to one side.

And why is the climate changing...? Because people aren't considering the damage we cause when we do things like start up our cars or don't recycle. All the harmful pollutants that we are putting into the Earth is the reason for that, and the people who just simply don't care!

I understand that these efforts are barely making a dent in society, but think of the impact we could make if we just gave it a chance?

Oh that's what you meant? I thought you meant "since they will be dying anyway" you were referring to those whom are chopping down the trees. My bad.

Well I was. If the trees are going to die anyway, might as well use em as far as I'm concerned.

Gotta agree with this. Extinction happens all the time so several plant, insect and animal species. Humans didn't kill them all, so I don't like being guilted into paying to saving the bees, trees, whales and snails.

To some extent, you have to let nature take it's course. Humans like to continue with the conceit that we have the ability to save or doom the planet. A planet that's been here for over 4 billion years, mind you.
Industrialization has only really been around for about 200 years. So 200 years vs 4 billion.
Some how I don't think some carbon emissions from cars and factories can destroy the earth.
I read in (I think it was) TIME magazine once that a single volcanic eruption emits more CO2 than humans have in the last 200 years. It could be wrong, a lot of the global warming sites like to debunk that one.

Sorry, rant over.
