Hey i was looking up additional info and came across this conversation. I am 36. In my early 20s, the next day after id been drinking the whole right or the whole left side of my body ached. Horribly. In my late 20s early 30s, i noticed when i drank my feet would itch. It quickly moved to my ankles and lower legs. Id scractch in my sleep so bad id bleed and wouldnt know it till mornin. Now, after even a sip, my legs break out in hives and its the most excruciating feeling cz short of benedryl and benedryl cream theres nothin to do but wait. The hives reaction happend today for the first time. It is an allergy. Not sure to what, but i drink kendal jackson chardonay, crown, and capt morgan, vodka. All high end. And it happens w each one...oh and tequilla...i read years ago was a systemic reaction. But im sayin im just full blown allergic to alcohol. It scared me today. I was in tears and was begging for a hospital to make the itching stop. 1/2 glass of wine. All it took. I was an hr from home ...if u hv these symptoms, i suggest no drinking. Only cz i thought it was fine and that i knew my body. Todsy was new, scary, and the end of all alcohol for me. Be careful always keep benedryl on u and maybe check into an epi pen

Thanks for the info. And Iam relieved to know that I am not the only one.

Alcohol has strange effects on people.

On some people it gives them itchy feet, on others, it gives them the ability to fly from the top of an eight story building, just like an angel, on others it leaves them flattened dead at the foot of an eight story building.

Alcohol is strange stuff.

Personally I can't mix alcohol with anything with caffeine in it without it making my arms feel like they are on fire. Because I am certainly addicted to caffeine and possibly addicted to alcohol it means I tend to keep a bucket full of cold water near me at all times.

Are you being serious about that last bit? It's hard to tell with you at times.

Alcohol is a vasodilator. It relaxes your venous system, which causes more blood volume in your skin. This is why it makes you feel warm.

My guess is that the alcohol leads to more blood in your feet, which brings more heat. The heat will cause some sweat and discomfort.

Somewhat serious. My arms seem to hurt when I drink coffee when I've been drinking alcohol. Not all the time, but occasionally. It's odd but apparently my dad is the same.

I ran across this thread after a google search because the same thing happens to me. I am just perplexed. I thought it was red wines at first (mainly cheap red wine), but recently I had the same experience after white wine. It has even happened with tequila. The itching wakes me up and it is only on the soles of my feet, and only after consuming alcohol.

Thanks! Now I'll be checking to see if my feet itch when I drink.

Hope it's nothing major!

I just had two more beers for the first time about a week ago...first time since this thread; and I still experience this. Weird.

I've noticed each time I drink anything alcoholic, 3 drinks tops at the most, the soles of my feet get very itchy.

Anyone else ever hear of this? Is this an indication of something?
It only happens when I drink alcoholic drinks; Never candy, cakes, or anything else sugary.

I've noticed this symptom for the past several years as well. I don't know why, but whenever I drink any alcohol, even a glass of wine, my feet feel dry and itchy as well. No problems with blood sugar levels, or liver trouble, as far as I know.

Just so u know. I have this too. I asked my doc and was told my body doesn&#39;t process the alcohol and that I&#39;m allergic to sulfides. Or sulfites. Whatever. If I have a glass of wine/or drink, I have to have a glass of water before a 2nd drink. It sucks. I&#39;ve been told it&#39;s like sleeping w dog w fleas. I scratch till I bleed in my sleep. It doesn&#39;t matter if it&#39;s wine, beer, tequila, vodka...Doesn&#39;t matter. I have found, the sweeter the drink the worse it is. I don&#39;t like sweet thank goodness. But I know the amt of sugar plays a role.

I have the same issue when I drink alcohol. Sometimes the itching starts with just one drink, but often it takes two drinks for the itchy sensation to start. Just my feet are affected. Because only my feet are affected I am pretty sure it is not an allergic reaction.

The feet are one of the most sensitive parts of the body.

So, if you have a mild allergy, it is quite possible that it is manifesting most notably in your feet.

It's because alcohol dries you out.

"Itchy Soles and Alcohol" - Isn't that a Hank Williams song?
