Well, too bad for old George Zimmerman, the kid had -no bag of loot-.
Well, maybe a bag of Skittles.
The 911 dispatch advised "Break off and desist"....
Moral of this story: If you're in any argument with anyone in a "shoot for 'self defense'" state hope and pray their not packing! They might "defend themselves". And yo dead, bro.

Looks like this law needs to be revisited?

I don't normally require links, but I have no idea what you're talking about or where you're coming from.

So... link?

Why?

The law does not allow you to take off and confront people. It does not allow you to start an altercation, get the worst of it and allow you to legally kill someone with your gun as a result.

The law allows you to shoot me and possibly kill me if I am attacking you, if I started it.

If this man started the altercation legal experts are saying he can not use this law.

Florida Stand Your Ground Law.

It eliminates the need for you to have to retreat if you are being attacked outside instead allowing you to use deadly force if you are being attacked or threatened with physical harm.

You can not use the law to start a fight, get the worst of it and shoot someone dead which is what I am getting from this thread.

I wanted to read more about the specific instance, but I am getting the same impression.

The kid stole from the guy and the guy chased him down and shot him?

Well, whatever. Even if he did, it has nothing to do with self defense anyway.

Assuming there's not more to it, or the facts haven't been twisted.

No, its about the Trayvon Martin case. He was black, 17 and in a gated community. He left the home and walked to the store to buy skittles and iced tea. He was confronted by a man named George Zimmerman. Zimmerman shot and killed the kid and is now using that law as self defense.

Its being argued that it was racially motivated and not self defense. An arrest has not been made.

The point though is that this guy seems to be getting off scott free for shooting a kid with a bag of skittles that he thought was a gun.

Quote:
Zimmerman has not been arrested because he told police he acted in self-defense, and then-Chief Lee said police did not have probable cause. Florida Statute 776.032 expressly prohibits police from arresting someone who had a reasonable fear of imminent death or great bodily harm. Police may investigate, the statute says, "but the agency may not arrest the person" without probable cause.

Well, s***. I was just worried about the crazy lady watching out her window with the camera. Now she's fricken packing. That's truly terrifying.

Google "Zimmerman" or "Tryvon Martin" and tons will come up. I would get links but the facts keep updating and so much out there, I think its best to read a lot of sources.

There are a few threads about it on here as well. I think one is in racism and the rest are in news and current events.
