OK, this isn't so topical anymore I guess, but I'd love to hear some thoughts about this.

What if the lawyer he shot actually dies? He's had a mild heart attack, and now has an irregular pulse. The methods that they normally use to normalise your pulse are incompatible with a trauma to the chest, such as a shot gun wound.

Will the Vice-pres be up for manslaughter? Will he lose his office?

Was cheney being grossly negligent when he shot him? If so then yes give him involuntary manslauter or negligent homicide.

I'm trying to work that out at the moment. From what I can gather so far the facts are:

1. Whittington approached from behind, without announcing his presence - a violation of hunting "code"
2. Whittington was wearing a bright orange jacket and vest, making him very visible.
3a. Whittington is not hunter education certified
3b. It is unknown whether Cheney is hunter education certified
4. Both parties were in breach of Game Law Code 43,652 , I'm not sure of what that is. Possibly see point 1?
5. Cheney was not in possession of a $7 bird hunting permit recently introduced in the area in which he was shooting.
6. The status of the safety catch on Cheney's weapon is unknown.
7. Neither party was under the influence of alcohol (reference Cheney's previous DUIs for why this is so important)

Bushy would probably pardon him anyway!

Hey what if the president murdered someone. Would they be allowed to pardon themself?

I think so too. But people without good lawyers have been known to go down for less, and Cheney just shot his...

I think it would be very hard for anyone, the Vice President included, to be out
with a lawyer, fully armed, and not shoot him. You know the old story, you are
locked in a room with Idi Amin, Adolf Hitler and a lawyer and you have a gun but
only two bullets, what do you do? Shoot the lawyer twice...

Then lets drag him through the mud and brand him. That'll teach him!
