Do 17 year olds really understand love though? Most teens go "ga-ga" for their first boyfriend/girlfriend.

I think so, i think if anything its probably the most intense love you ever feel at that age, which is why most people think its for life. If anything it calms with age, you love but not so intensely.

I really think it all depends on your maturity. I am 17 years old and I am engaged but I have also grown up in a household with 7 siblings. I help arround the house a lot, I do my own laundry and sometimes my little sister's as well. I have my own job and I haven't been late once. I plan events in advance and am sure to check my work schedule before making any important plans. I am finishing highschool and I have a solid plan for what I am going to do after highschool and I have plans for if those plans fall through. I rarely rely on others and take responsability for my actions and accept the consequences. I realize that I may not have all the answers but I have the tools needed to aquire them. So based on what I have been taught, what I have experienced, and what I believe to be true, I think that it all depends on how responsable you are and how you handle stress and problems you are faced with, because just like there are many immature adults, there are also many mature children. It all depends on the person.

My mum was 17 when she married dad and last Friday they celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary works for some but not others I guess. Depends on the emotional maturity of both parties

Dear All,

I'm doing some research at work, and am in communication with a girl who is considering getting married, she is 17 years old and therefore needs her Parents consent.
It has been quite difficult as her parents are not as supportive as she'd like.
To me he sounds really great, he is very kind and appreciates her a lot and I think that they would be very happy together but it did get me thinking- is it too young?
Historically speaking women have been marrying at 17 and younger for centuries- so whats the problem when girls today get married that young?
Things have changed though, the sexual and cultural revolution of the 60's has seemed to release women from the obligation of getting married and starting a family young- but is that liberating- and should we shun girls for doing what is natural to them?

Any thoughts?
It would be great to hear from any other girls in this situation, as I am doing some research into this area for work.

Thanks,

Emily

I guess since times have changed, many people now tend to see it as immoral or disgusting or just plain ole nasty. I have seen things while in school where in the past many young girls were married by the age of 16 or 17. A few older and a few younger. In my eyes I say if they are willing to get married at 17, they can wait until 18.

I know I can't say that when there were those who were put in arranged marriages as well. I think if anything 17 or 18 should be the youngest ages. Any younger and that would be a little weird for me. I'm sorry, but that's my opinion on it.
