Oh sure.

Listen, DON'T ask me a question if you don't want an honest answer! WTF???? I could have gone my entire life without telling anyone what I chose to do for others in need.

He's right... You should have insurance. That's what it is for.

In theory that sounds nice. In practice, insurance always ends up as a struggle to force a payout against petty-minded nit-picking about small print.

There's a fallacy that says not supporting government assistance to those in need is the same as not supporting assistance of any form. This thread is a great example of said fallacy.

insurance companies have risk programs that well tell them what to charge in each area of the country down to the street you live on. Some Insurance companies will no longer write new policies for homes that are more than 30 years old

insurance is a hassle, true... So maybe we should work on fixing that system instead of throwing money at each disaster (when that's what insurance is SUPPOSED to do) and spend the money once on regulating a broken system. You are required to have car insurance, soon to be required to have health insurance, really should have homeowners insurance... With all this need for insurance, I see a need to fix/regulate it.

not all insurances are very bad though... From time to time we will get insurance companies putting a tornado victim in my hotel until long term arranements can be made. And that's the riht thing to do.

You can't fix insurance - if it had to pay out too often it would be no longer commercially viable, lol. It is not there to help, it is there to make money for the insurance company and thus the economy. Like a casino - it is biased for the house.

I'm talkin about paying out when a disaster happens... Of course you will still need investigators and what not, especially for single home fires... But they should put you up in a hotel until they can send an adjuster out. Then depending on your plan and how much your house was appraised for when setting up the policy... A check can be issued in a timely manner.

Like I said, it sounds nice in theory, but it would be massively resisted by insurance companies in practice. Some form of state assistance is more practical.

The only difference would be that it's one massive entity doing the exact same thing.

I can see that working, but at the same time that could easily be taken advantage of. I'd imagine part of the agreement for would be that if it turns out you're guilty of insurance fraud, you have to pay them back for the hotel and anything else the insurance company had to pay for.
