I remember Katrina.
Government aid staged well in advance of the storm could not enter Louisianna because the local governor had not requested aid. Until that request is sent the Federal government is not ALLOWED to help.

In Texas thousands of vehicles set out in caravans.
Free supplies, food, water, lumber, free labor. For weeks they were blocked at the Texas/Louisianna border by the Louisianna State Police who insisted that they didn't need any help from Texas.
Texans also loaded their private boats with supplies and tried to sail into New Orleans. After a few days this stopped as the sniper fire had gotten too dangerous and several boats were seized by thieves.

I have an answer for that problem. Pull out the policy and read it.

Because the average person can understand what was purposely written to be confusing by highly educated lawyers. That's why we need to have companies show a simple thing anyone can understand showing what they cover.

@boxerdc Said

My insurance doesn't cover floods or earthquakes. I found out about the earthquakes part last year..

I am covered for hurricane and tornado damage though.

I need to find out if I'm covered for damaged caused by rabid weasels.

Are you covered for tornado damage if there was also a cow next door with 3 legs? There's probably an exception in your policy somewhere for that occurence.

Well, you're talking about before the premium was paid. I thought we were talking about afterwards and people needing further help than 'average' reading abilities. All that confusion that lawyers hammer out. That.

What are you doing personally, out of your money, to help them?

the food the water the lumber all great.
the labor big problem do they have insurance if something goes wrong 5 years down the road?

WE saw many churches down there agreed to supervise and add as additional insured on a few.So that a couple of them could repair homes. Again you better know the codes have a contractor license and insurance to do this type of work

I don't know much about Mr. Paul, but I'd bet he's a "giver." He seems like one. In my experience, most people who can give, like to give. It's a joy.

A lot of "givers" don't to do it publicly. It's more of a private choice who to give to. In the end, it all helps.

agreed, it does all help.
but charities alone can't do it all.
tornado insurance don't help when the place you worked at got blown away.

Well, then you pick yourself up and move on. Move to another state, get a job, rebuild, start over. Nobody said it was going to be easy. This reliance on the government for every bump in the road is ridiculous.
