Most image hosts, tinypic included, do not filter EXIF data. Intact EXIF data is a requirement for the photo anyway.

EXIF data from your posted image:

Date Time Original: 2009:12:30 15:00:03
Exposure Time: 1/40
F Number: 2.8
Exposure Program: Normal program
ISO Speed Ratings: 200
Metering Mode: Pattern
Flash: Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode
Focal Length: 7.9
White Balance: Auto white balance
Make: SONY
Model: DSC-N2

Oh okay, interesting. Is all that listed at tinypic?

What about holding a newspaper with the date showing. That would be cool.

It's embedded into the image itself as metadata, so yes.

At any rate Boobear you're doing a fantastic job, and it doesn't bother me either way what rules are in place, as this is all just for fun anyhow. Ignore the hating.

That being said, I do agree with Jonnythan on his point and perhaps allow for minimal editing, as it wouldn't be fair otherwise for those who have a very cheap camera and are stuck with not being able to touch it up a bit versus those who can afford a very expensive camera that does all the touching up for them automatically.

i'm regarding this competition as a bit of fun ... and i'm looking forward to seeing some interesting photos .. and i'm not really bothered how people manipulate their images ... because that's all part of the creative process .. i hope that some don't take it way to seriously

Actually the point I was trying to make was that the cheap cameras do enormous amounts of touching-up by themselves, and it's the expensive cameras that produce images that require touching up to look the same.

And actually while we're talking about EXIF data, people may want to be careful with the images they post. Most cell phones and an increasing number of point and shoot cameras embed location data in the form of exact GPS coordinates in the images they take.

This means that if you take a pic with your cell phone and put it on Photobucket, someone can view the EXIF data and see a map of the exact spot the pic was taken.

Makes sense. But you can't program your camera to do this editing for you on the expensive models?

The rationale is that people using cheap point and shoot cameras just want good pictures with zero fuss or work, so the camera has a whole suite of post-processing functions built right in that operate automatically.

People with expensive cameras are going to be much pickier about how their photos turn out and want to control and tweak each step of the processing that the cheap cameras automate.

By the way, I think "no post production" is silly and impossible. A simple point and shoot camera does a whole host of post-processing work every time you depress the shutter, boosting the contrast, brightness, saturation, sharpness, noise reduction etc. A .raw shot from a DSLR will generally have little to none of that and things like color and sharpness really need to be fixed in PP. A RAW literally image can't even be posted or viewed until interpreted by a post-processing suite.

"No post production" would even completely preclude something like cropping, red eye reduction, noise removal, etc.

So "no post production" should be changed to something like "minimal post production only"

I was wondering about this as well.

I still use an old Pentax SLR (SP1000 to be exact) for some of my shots, and I have to scan the 35mm negative into my computer in order to get a digital image for printing or posting.

I almost always have to do some editing because the scanner does not give a 100% true reproduction of the negative. And of course, the film camera does not have any way of embedding EXIF data in the image. All the information shown in the EXIF, is the scanning info.

Now, stop taking about rules & start posting your entries!

Go go go! Now!

This is supposed to be fun remember so post anything as long as it's at least vaguely related to the theme. I'm gonna do mine tonight!

I really don't have a clue how I would do that so no.
