Found. The tree of knowledge of good and evil.

In the only place it could be found. In the Bible.

I will assume here that those who compiled the books of the Bible knew what they were doing, in terms of giving us a myth with a moral lesson.

God is said to be the Alpha and the Omega. The beginning and the end. Bible God is to be at the top and bottom of any attribute we can think of for God. He is to be our example of the greatest love as well as the greatest hate. After all, he does set the standards of what is good and what is evil.

The Bible tells us not to add or subtract from it and to use it as it’s own judge. If we are to do so then we must judge what is in it as good or evil. FMPOV, the O T shows God’s evil side and the N T shows God’s good side. Most recognize this and this is why the emphasis is on following Jesus and not the barbaric God of the O T. IOW, the O T is the evil side of the tree of knowledge while the N T is the good side of the tree of knowledge.

Many that follow the Bible God recognize this. Literalists and fundamentals do not. They end up venerating the evil side of God, the O T, as well as the good side, Jesus and the N T, when they are supposed to be rejecting the God of evil in the O T.

Literalists and fundamentals can thus be seen as immature thinkers and true sheep. While Christians who recognize the evil in the God of the O T can be seen as better thinkers and able to discern good from evil. Literalist can be seen as poor thinkers who cannot discern evil. They end up with a theology that embraces everything from genocide to infanticide as long as God is doing it. Arguably an immoral position.

This is how literalists and fundamentals all end up hurting their parent religions.

If, as I stated, that the O T of the Bible should be seen as the evil side of the tree of knowledge and God, then the tree of life should be near. I submit that it is also within the Bible but that it has nothing to do with eternal life. Nowhere in the Bible is the great lose of this tree of immortality bemoaned. Yet to many, it is the most important aspect of the Bible. I think we can trust scriptures, when they speak of a tree of life, and only means a good life and not an eternal one.

Literalists and fundamentals thus end up having much work to do on their morals because they are hindered by the notion that they should be embracing and honoring an evil God.

In effect, from a biblical standpoint, they are the Anti-Christ, as they continue to venerate evil.

Who do you follow, the good God of the N T, or the evil God of the O T?

Reading the Bible as I do, and seeing it as containing the tree of knowledge and the tree of life, make this book all inclusive in and of itself and in that way, I am true to the authors and compilers who said not to add or subtract anything from it. It was meant to show a complete story and God and I think that reading it as I do is the only way to understand the full story. God thus become the epitome of both good and evil. As it should be for a God who takes responsibility. Mythically speaking that is.

Fundamentalist don't reject the god of the OT because they agree with him. I don't think it is because they follow blindly but rather because they are evil themselves and can relate.
Those who identify with the teachings of Jesus are better thinkers but they too have a problem. Spending way too much time trying to save the wicked.
As far as your question is concerned, I do not follow anything in the bible. Most of it is a load of crap.

No argument here friend.
I give the bible some respect as a book of wisdom but no more than a good fairy tales.

You must admit, I hope, that it has pushed your wisdom level up as it has helped you to recognize crap when you read it.

The only problem with that statement is that Jesus teachings came from the OT and his "God and Father". The NT actually teaches exactly the same as the OT, which is why Jesus quoted from it so much and taught from it, as did the Apostles.

How can you say it is a "load of c**p" when so much of it is proven, especially it's history and prophecy? Or are you too blind to see it I wonder? Or maybe too stubborn (or frightened) to admit it?

I guess it all boils down to faith and belief. It doesn't matter to me about prophecy or history. What matters is my own faith in the Higher power. I do not need the bible to confirm it.

Depends on what you believe the Higher power to be I guess, to me the only Higher power worthy of the worship and respect is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, so for that the bible is essential as it is the only guide book we have.

The guidebook is inside of you. I know that probably sounds crazy to you, but that is the only way I can explain it. You have studied religious books for many years so you can understand the importance of self reflection especially in an honest way. I think that is what you lack to some degree.

Self reflection is only valuable if it is in harmony with the bible. If you go the meditation route alone you are to open to the influence of Stan without a bible to check you thoughts against.

I have read, and studied a number of Holy Books, and found their words to have no value at all. The only one with any proven value is the bible.

There lies the real problem. You are unwilling to see the value of self reflection if it means looking elsewhere for it. If that makes you happy then so be it. But you can't claim to have the end-all answer to everything when you have not fully explored other ways of thinking can you?

I cannot see what isn't there even if I wished to. If it had been there I would have seen it. True it presented some attractive idea, but none that were practical or which actually made sense. The only one that can back up it's claims at all proved to be the bible, and having found that why move away.

You know what they say, it is ain't broke, don't fix it.

Self analysis is nothing unusual to me. According to the few psychiatrists I have met with I have a better then average knowledge of who and what I am, and the psychological counsellors I have seen for my self esteem problems have agreed. My Ex wife always told me I spent too much time analysing myself to see what I could improve.

What makes you think I haven't explored them? The fact that I don't agree with you?

I always thought that the tree of all knowledge revealed to Adam and Eve that God was Satan and that's what pissed off God and sent Adam and Eve running to put on clothes.

I've also speculated that the 'Tree of Knowledge' is just simply the collection of testaments, writings and fictions in our environment that propositionally demonstrate theories concerning the mysterious and lesser known sciences behind life it self.

By 'tree' I mean that we, throughout time, copy and expand on each other's work rather we realize it or not so someone writes something as the 'base' of the tree and future philosophers, inspired by that base, add relevant material that branch out from that tree.

As example most Gothic and Cyberpunk fiction can be traced back to the base that is the Bible.

The Tree of the knowledge of Good and Bad, as presented to Adam and Eve and prohibited to them was a symbol of the right to decide what is good and bad for mankind. God reserved that right for himself because he knew, having created them, that mankind would never have sufficient foresight to do it for themselves. Satan convinced Eve that God was withholding something from them which was their right, and Eve agreed, then Adam took her, and therefore Satan's side.

From that moment on things went wrong and man has spent the last 6,000 years or more proving God right and Satan, Adam and Eve wrong.

It is surprising how much of literature has it's roots in the bible story, even that written by people who have no knowledge of the bible.

This would suggest that mankind was meant only to be beast and like that of the apes - Satan would be an entity or group of beings alien to the hive mind that runs the Earth and governs the predatorial creatures here.

(see Hermann Hesse's "Steppenwolf" )

Whatever that group or entity did introduced the discernment we have now but creates confusion in contrast to our intended nature.

Although this would seem to be an act of good intention and nothing intentionally malicious as to throw a wrench in the gears.

I didn't initially see the period after 'Found' in the thread title and I thought this was going to be a collection of vacation photos.
