Well, hell, I don't know.

My guess if it's a direct quote, with the link to the post it came from, then it's ok,

But maybe another mod might want back me up, or tell me I'm wrong about that.

Some are quite obviously a swipe at individual users, others a reminder of good humoured banter, so shouldn't referrencing a user in a sig be the same as if it was a post?

Given that a sig is likely to appear every time a poster posts, personal attack is sustained at another user?

No doubt, the name could be left out, making that impossible to police anyway, but it sprung to mind...

Just to say; I'm not aiming this at any particular person

I try my best not to b**** about it. I tend to debate more about the topic more than the person. Some people don't make it easy though.

Alright.. one more question to muddle the waters even more

Three statements:

But boxer, that's because you're a big old homo.
But spinkie, that's because you're a sexy black chick.
But treebs, that's because you're a posh slapper.

Would those be name calling? Because they're accurate descriptions of the users.

Don't be ridiculous - Treebs isn't posh!

Oh... and make this fair warning.... To everyone.

If you are jokingly calling someone a name, cut it out or deal with the punch.

I'm tired of trying to remember who is friends and when it's a joke and its "ok" and when its a real flame.

I have a good memory but it's not good enough to remember who is friendly with who on any given day.

In the past, i've let things slide, if it seems to have been a joke between friends, (and that whole lazy part if no one was reporting it)
but with this new warning that will change.

Ok, I have a question... what if someone calls you a "Futher Mucker or Bun of a Sitch? Are those punchable?

yes, if its namecalling, using cutesy ways of saying bad words is not a way to get around the namecalling rule. It has always been that way.

I would say it would have to depend on context, knowing your a big old homo wouldn't be a flame if it was used to say you knew what you were talking about when it came to your experiences over the years on homosexual issues.
now if it was an attempt to discredit you in say a debate on economic policy, that had nothing to do with who you were, other than someone had personal issues with you, and they were trying to belittle or insult you by saying it, then it probably would be a flame.

Here is the wiki entry on flaming https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaming_%28Internet%29

The counter point to cracking down on flaming, is also cracking down on flamebaiting, because it isn't fair that it only goes one way because sometimes someone did start it. If two people are dishing it, they are both going to get reprimanded.

I don't think the mods will go off to lala land and punch people frivolously or anything like that. I'm sure there will be some form of commonsense.

True, we only have so many punches at a time, and all the other mods and admin can check them, and we will get in trouble if we are dishing them out all willy nilly without reason, and we all talk to each other about things.

There are people that I do not like, or like too much, and I usually check to see that I am being fair, we all do. Most of us would rather that people just play polite with others, it makes everything easier on everyone.

We don't want to stop disagreement and debate, that is impossible, just asking people to keep it civil.

I hate to say it but it's about time. I really started to hate coming here when I see certain people show in posts.

To me any way...

It's good. Probably guilty of being lazy too. In some of the threads lots of labels being thrown about. But, don't report it, cuz ya do get to know some posters' style, and ya just let it go. But then, things change, it may not even be about posters here having a disagreement -- it could just be a bad day at work. It could be someone someone cut you off -- ha ha, was thinking of 'in traffic' when I wrote this, but it could mean other ways as well. Anyways, after a bad day, the wordage that you may of normally taken in stride may become the last straw. And so it begins. Best to disagree with the idea, or opinion, NOT the poster. Simple, huh?

Lol way too confusing.

Personally, rather than allow the fun of posting in here to be taken, I think I'll just take the same approach that I took when another thread was made a while back on a crackdown in a different area, and that is I will just continue to post in the same manner as I always have. I don't attack people anyways, unless it is in jest with members like Dave and Eagle. If the latter results in punchings or bans, so be it - I'll just move on to another forum. I would rather enjoy the freedom of posting the way that is natural for me, the reason I post period, rather than always have to look behind my back an edit with all this serious ultra-modding.

I did a bit of thinking last night. Two things, one of them, someone else mentioned.

The first is signatures. Sometimes its obvious who really dislikes another member. They take a certain quote and put it as a signature, not as two friends having a laugh but to mock the other person or make things worse. How will this be addressed?

The second, are baiting threads. I have seen in the last week someone make a thread and admit in the thread that it was for baiting but last time I looked, the thread was still there.

I think sometimes its hard to tell what is baiting because most will not admit it or throw in a user name. If its obvious its baiting and who its for, the person is punished and thread locked, even if no use name is mentioned or how does one punish if no name is mentioned but its obvious?

If someone does admit, ha ha ha, this thread was for so and so and to bait them, they get in trouble?

This is going to be difficult for everyone for a bit but hopefully will stop a lot of the drama.
