I think some TFSers will have noticed over the past 6 months or so that standards have slipped.

I dont expect everyone has noticed. Admittedly when there is a massive b**** fest of a thread it is easier to let someone else deal with it which is sort of what we have been doing of late.

Well, I have been perusing and posting around here for about 3 years I think and to be quite honest, when I first came on I figured that the standard couldn't slip any lower.

Seems that I may have been wrong.

But just for the record, I had not noticed any differential in the abyss.

Must mostly occur during the day (US time), because in the late evenings, when I am usually on, I usually don't see any of that going on as prevalently as you describe. It's a pretty tame, cool bunch here at this time.

I think the difference is what may be "tame" to some, is "not so nice, and upsetting" to others.

So we apply the same standard across the board, debate the ideas not the people presenting them.

Oh... and make this fair warning.... To everyone.

If you are jokingly calling someone a name, cut it out or deal with the punch.

I'm tired of trying to remember who is friends and when it's a joke and its "ok" and when its a real flame.

I have a good memory but it's not good enough to remember who is friendly with who on any given day.

In the past, i've let things slide, if it seems to have been a joke between friends, (and that whole lazy part if no one was reporting it)
but with this new warning that will change.

I understand the reason for the crack down and agree with it. Things lately have gotten out of hand. I feel as thought it got to the point where the people who usually are aggressors even made the polite people snap so this crack down will ensure that the aggressors are not up to what they usually do and do not make the usually polite people snap, further escalating things.

I would like clarification please on one issue. It is now against the rules for anyone to say swear words to refer to another member even if its a joke and they do not mean it and anyone who does this is getting a punch regardless of who they are friends with? So if I post that I have not done my laundry and am buying new clothes instead, as my friend you could not tell me to just go and do some laundry, you lazy b****? I ask because I often call certain friends b****es and do not want to break the rules.

In post your mind, I often am posting about people who piss me off, not people here and just say the person at the store who had 20 items and not the 10 for express, I can still refer to that person as a swear word or no?

Yes, you may. You have my permission.

And it wouldn't be against TOS unless they have an account. lol

I am asking because its still name calling. In the past, there have been accusations made that certain name calling posts were not about what is written but secret messages about unnamed members when it was not that at all and it caused drama so I wanted to ask.

It's not just swear words that are flames, you can flame someone (Or make a below the belt personal dig in a disagreement, without cussing at them. Cussing is still ok in general. Just because someone uses a bad word, does not make it flame or personal attack. (Think of a flame as a minor personal attack.)

I don't want to go all hard ass, but obviously there has been so much slippage that major problems have started. Most of this stuff happens in serious threads where people are on a topic, rather than just "shooting the s***" type threads.

*I know Max calls his womens, his b****es, I know the difference but maybe Tino doesn't (I'm not sure if he does, I just picked a mod) so if he sees that, he might not take the time to check to see if people are friends first.

That's where the risk is, and we are asking to be more careful in how people talk to each other. If the mod has to try and figure out what you mean, accidents might happen. Before we only did something about it if was reported, (assuming friends were just teasing) but then that left more people thinking some get away with calling others names, when they got punched for a name calling that was not that bad. And assuming it was some grand master plot.

And then there were people that I thought were friends, but they fell out favor with each other and suddenly teasing that was ok two days ago was now "rude and insulting, offensive and crossing a line."

Again, if a mod has to try and figure out who you mean, because its so cryptic that it's not clear, especially in Post Your Mind or Dear you type threads, there most likely won't be a punch.

we are not mind readers, all I as is that your words say what you mean not make us have to guess. I mean intent, not like misspellings or such.

Darn, does this make sense or did I ramble too much?

Sorry, honestly, its still a little fuzzy to me too. So if something doesn't happen on a reported post immediately, it might just be that one of the mods is asking for a second opinion, that happens sometimes.

Short answer: Yes. you can cuss, you just can't cuss at someone.

Directly telling someone to "f*** off" always has been and will be a punch worthy offense. Either by name, or in response to their post.

telling the world to f*** off, or something not clearly directed at a TFS member is still ok.

One more question... just to muddle things more..

Does the post have to be reported? Because my skin is like lead armor, and nothing anyone has ever said to me here (aside from the death threat) has ever bothered me, so I don't report silly name calling..

If the post isn't reported, do you still punch?

For the record, I'm not trying to find a workaround, I just don't want to see Davii get in trouble for calling me a b****, because it doesn't bother me.

I'm so glad that I'm not a moderator.

Max does not name call, a b**** is a female dog so he thinks all women are suppose to be called b****es like they are at the dog shows.

I understand better now, thank you. I was worried about name calling in random threads like post your mind or dear you when it was not meant for anyone here because some think its a plot and really meant in another way and makes for drama that is unnecessary.

I get the joke thing because a noob can say well so and so called so and so a b**** or a bastard. And yeah, people fall out and one day its a joke and the next horrible words. I get it now. Thanks.

Talk about the message and not the person posting it. That will be my bottom line when I post.

Yeah, it'll be no fun if I get into trouble from calling Boxer a queer looking fanny magnet!

Joking aside, I guess people could see others do it and think it's acceptable behaviour etc...

I didn't punch davii, and I just wanted to use that as an example of a flame that we may not know its a joke.

I'm guessing the change here from what we have done in the past is: no it doesn't have to be reported, we will punch on what we see, that doesn't mean we (or I) can read every thread as it is posted, so something might still take a while to be seen. I catch up on stuff when its slow and I'm bored, which may be 24hours or more after it was posted.

But if something is reported, there will definitely be a punch

I know the tough skin some of us have does muddy the water, and color perceptions.

Well, hell, I don't know.

My guess if it's a direct quote, with the link to the post it came from, then it's ok,

But maybe another mod might want back me up, or tell me I'm wrong about that.
