Stunned, really stunned.

What other type of music has words like this?
In today's world, our young folks don't seem quite as able to
separate music and TV versus reality. That is the scary part.

Would you let your teenagers listen to music like this?

**********************************************************************
Part I:
First verse, uh
I'm on 'til I'm on an island
My life's ridin' on the Autobahn on autopilot
Before I touch dirt, I'll kill you all wit' kindness
I kill ya, my natural persona's much worse
You've been warned if you've been born or if you can form
Slap up a cop and then snatch 'im out of his uniform
Leave him wit' his socks, hard bottoms and bloomers on
And hang him by his balls from the horn of a unicorn
Y'all niggas' intellect mad slow, y'all fags know
Claimin' you banging', you flamin'
Bet you could ??? light your own cigarette witcha a*****e???
Me and Shady deaded the past, so that basically resurrected my cash flow
I might rap tight as the snatch of a fat dyke
Though I ain't wrapped tight
My blood type's the '80s!
My '90s was like the Navy, you was like the Bradys
You still fly kites daily!

What the heck? And this is just the first part?

Sounds like something Eminem would write. Is it his?

And parents have been disgusted with the music/lyrics their children listen to for generations.

You can't force a teenager not to listen to music just because you have a problem with it, chances are they have the means to get it without you knowing anyway. I'm all for artistic license so I don't have much of a problem with it, as long as young children don't have to put up with it. It's not my kind of music but if some people enjoy it and it makes them happy then so be it. If you don't like it, don't listen.

Those who can't separate fantasy from reality will have issues with or without that kind of music. Explicit content comes in all formats from literature to games to music, it's a bit silly to point out just one thing because you don't like the music.

Yes, it is Eminem.

But don't you think 'back then' we had a better understanding of reality and proper social behavior in different situations VERSUS music and television and words and behavior used therein?
That we had a clearer picture of
'our life' VS == oh that's ... 'just TV' or 'just music'?

The situation isn't any different than what we've heard in punk, heavy metal, or psychedelica during the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Most just listen to it because they get whatever rise they get out of listening to it, but don't go ahead and practice it in society, and those that do, would have done so anyways. Only a few nutcases will listen to a song impartial to its artist and suddenly declare, "Oh, this dude tells me I should shoot a cop - guess I have no choice then..."

The less time teens have on their hand, when they are actively involved in school/school activities; church/church activity; family and friend activities; volunteering or part-time jobs --- definitely all or any of this could curtail the amount of hours a teen would have available to become 'overly' attached to any one type of music.
That's the ideal for me.

Seriously though, would 'you' personally let your pre-teen
or teenager (13-16/17) listen to this type music constantly?

Yeah, that's not Johnny Cash, that's for sure.

No, and music back then might of had innuendos etc,
but definitely not so explicit.

Right, I agree with all of that.
But it is disturbing when you notice those FEW who seem to
have a problem differentiating from what is real and entertainment.

That's true.
And now it's not just words, it's images to go along with it.
Gotta have the bling, too, right?

I think you're assuming the worst about young people. My brother and his friends don't do any of those things and they've been known to listen to aggressive music. Having been that age not too long ago I can safely say that the kind of people you're talking about exist in the minority, not the majority and although that kind of music isn't classy or age appropriate perhaps, it's still music and art.

Also I don't think one can become too attached to music. Saying that just listening to a rap song will make them want to do what's in the song is massively underestimating their intelligence. Young people aren't mindless automatons, they have the capacity to think for themselves, believe it or not.

Plenty of people, both young and old, listen to metal where there are lyrics along a similar vein and yet the vast majority of them are not out killing people dressed as vikings. The same goes for rap music. You can't judge someone in that way by their choice of music genre.

Never going to have kids myself but hypothetically sure, as long as I didn't have to listen to it. You can only teach someone morals and hope they follow them. If they've been taught well then they'll be fine, whether or not they choose to listen to rap music or not.

Actually, if my hypothetical teenager ever listened to the s***e that passes for rap/hip-hop these days I'd have to sit them down and give them some NWA, Beastie Boys, Scroobius Pip et al and sort them out.
