The Killer Elite is an action movie that hits in a few places, but misses badly in others. Perhaps it is the expectation that ultimately brings it down, in riding on such a film that has Robert DeNiro and Clive Owen starring in a fall release, andcoupled with a pretty complex plot, an apparently true story involving hits of Mexican leaders, Brittish SAS agents, arab vigilantes (can't leave them out, can we?), and, of course, the "elite" assassinators themselves, an independent rogue group consisting of DeNiro and Jason Straham's characters, among others, performing these assassinations with impressive brute "Bourne-style" success, but, while the last comparision is what drives the bulk of the movie, the audience is really left wishing for more.
We've seen this type of movie many times, especially with Straham. While it is nice to see DeNiro playing his type of character again, we don't see enough of him, the purpose of any of the assassinations doesn't really excite us, we don't see enough innovation in the fight scenes, much more could have been potentially been done with this kind of premise, and wasn't, in terms of the plot, and, worst of all, the open ending leaves us wondering what worth it was all for anyways.
