I can't decide if it's racist or not. Political correctness can really throw a monkey wrench into things.

A weekend can make a world of difference, and this one was no exception. Christie has apparently reemphasized that he's not running, and Herman Cain walked away with the Florida straw poll. A trend, of course, this does not make, but suddenly Cain's candidacy is no longer a throwaway.

Does it look more enticing for Palin now? What will next Monday look like? Will Obama's chances continue to drop.

Do you know what a straw poll is?

I'll give you a hint. It doesn't in any way involve the voting base.

(For our other readers, Herman Cain had a grand total of.... 986 votes.)

It certainly is interesting. I liked Cain from the beginning. When he speaks, it's well thought out, not aimless babble. It's early yet, but I wish Cain well.

What does it involve, children? What are you talking about? And a lot has been make of the Fla straw poll in past elections. Nobody, especially Cain, is blowing this out of proportion, but it can't be dismissed either. Certainly it's caught the media's attention.

It involves politicos who are or were RNC delegates.

Cain's showings in the past have had universal appeal to a wide spectrum of voters, particularly in the face of the lackluster performance of his opponents. But his inability to get any traction has held him in the margins....until now. All I'm saying is maybe.......maybe......he might finally be getting some traction.

So that gives it LESS import?

So this poll doesn't involve straws? That's disappointing

Never said it's not important. But don't think that a straw poll result is any indication of whether the Republican voting base would vote for a black man for President.

The straw poll winners seem to be mostly determined by who has the coolest entertainment in their tent that day and very little to do with the candidates' actual voter support or political viewpoints.

You sure implied it wasn't important, and you continue to misunderstand the Tea Party. And you say you aren't a Democrat. That's a typical party talking point for which there is absolutely no evidence. And I can testify, from the inside, that it doesn't exist, particularly when compared to the massive, open anti-white racism in the Democrat Party.

No, I didn't. I implied it didn't have the implications that you said it did. And it doesn't.

To the contrary. No one actually understands the Tea Party. It's not anything remotely approaching a unified group. It's a big mishmash of highly incompatible philosophies united only by dissatisfaction with the current government.

Straw polls are notorious for basically being nearly worthless predictors of who is leading the actual polls and who will go on to to have a successful campaign.

Your opinion, and not a very widespread one either.

It's a loose coalition mainly for communication on the one overriding concern, disastrous government economic policy for the last 80 years. Sums it up real easy. I know it, you know it, the establishment Republicans know it and the Democrats know it.

Not worthless or they wouldn't have them and the candidates spend as much time on them as they do. Often they don't have much impact except for early momentum. Bachmann won Iowa poll, then fell back. Cain won this outta nowhere by a big margin. He may fall back, but may not. The only thing it's saying is he MAY be getting traction, pay a little closer attention and see, that's all.

What do Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Rick Santorum, Ron Paul, and Mitt Romney have in common?

They have all won a major straw poll in the last month.

I know that this particular one has predicted the Republican candidate since 1979 but something tells me that the only reason a lower tier candidate won it was because the higher tier candidates (Romney and Perry) aren't trying.

Look at Bachmann's performance at Iowa. She paid for votes and still only got 80% of the votes she paid for.

There is a real argument that this year is the first year these straw polls are completely meaningless.
