I had a debate about my son with his father. See, my son just turned 5yrs old. The other day he made a statement "I don't have girlfriends I have boyfriends" and His father went crazy. Now me, i was trying not interfere with his father as he was totally going off on my son, cause you know he was doing his fatherly talk but i had to intervene. I had to put this fool in his place because it is clear that a 5yr old don't know anything about boyfriend/girlfriend relationships on an intamite level..right??? All my son knows is he have fun playing cars and trains with his little friends. Am i wrong for wanting to bodyslam my boyfriend for making my son feel like he did something wrong? He even told my son it was gay to say that. Do this idiot even knows that our son don't even know what gay is?? We had a huge argument over this.. Should i have just kept my mouth closed? Was i wrong?

I don't think you were wrong. It sounds like the father is completely overreacting.

It is hard to tell if you overreacted or not. Could you post the video of his outburst? Or the police report?

Hell no you weren't wrong!

You're supposed to protect your child and lay your life on the line to do it if you have to.

I'm talking Officer Ellen Ripley here.

Body slam his a** if you have to girl! Go ape to protect your baby! Let the lioness in you shine baby. Don't worry about a grown a** man.

And you're right, a little boy don't know anything about relationships or gay. So protect your child from being shoved into playing house. Let him have his childhood and enjoy it to the fullest.

Nah, from that it doesn't sound like you were wrong; it sounds like your boyfriend is a homophobic douche. Didn't anyone ever explain to him how contagious cooties are at that age?

I see nothing wrong in the way that you acted. He's a child and as you said he doesn't understand the grownup meaning of that word. To him they are his boyfriends because they are boys and his friends.

Oh i forgot to mention his mom is a lesbian whom he's totally embarassed by because she dresses and acts like a man. Thats another reason why i snapped out..Take your insecurities to a shrink don't take it out on my son, I Mean this argument got intense cause YES,i did take it there with him.

Yeah, it's more understandable now how he didn't think of cooties, but he still needs to work out his s***.

I think if you did it privately with him, there is nothing wrong with that. And, yes, he was completely over-reacting. He didn't even comprehend what the boy was saying.

This more or less is the perfect reply I think.

Your son obviously means that his friends are boys and that he likes playing with them...which for a five year old boy is completely healthy (my younger son is also five). And his father was completely misconstruing that.

Like Leon said, you ought to confront him about it but do it when your son isn't around.
