I survived two night shifts!
July 26, 2011 @ 08:17:22 am
There's this situation at work, where they take up to 6 months to replace a resigned employee. This has happened with the last Night Receptionist that has left. Now, who has the honour to cover all those shifts? All the rest of us of course. I've just gone through two night shifts in a row this week and, like every time, I feel sick all day and I'm walking around like a zombie, not being able to do any activity that takes more energy than lying on the sofa! This lifestyle is so not for me... I'm normally pretty strict with my sleeping pattern, shift working permitting.
Not looking forward to the next set of nights. Sorry if I bored anyone who's reading but I've got to get the negative waves out so that I can enjoy the rest of my life.

I've been interested in sleeping patterns a lot lately, mainly due to mine being screwed up all the time, I think I'll make a thread on that. I'm curious to see how people value their sleep.

Nights are awful, I used to get properly upset and moody when I had to do them, on average it was 4 nights in a row every 4th week, I slept from 2-4 hours each day and you are obviously up 24 hours the day before your first night. Some people love nights, one of my friends who is a midwife much prefers them but I think that is cos she sleeps really well! Two nights isn't too bad though and at least you know it won't be forever. Nights were a big part of the reason why I left ward nursing I just couldn't put myself through them anymore! Good luck!

nights are terrible. My father had to do 12 hour nights every two weeks. Two weeks he would be on day shift and then the next week he would go straight to nights. Needless to say he didn't get much sleep. I hope it gets worked out soon so you can get more sleep. <3
