interesting subject . i haven't any research knowledge to impart , however , there is a faint whiff of occupying forces subduing the native population ...when i watch dog the bounty hunter , which is filmed in hawaii ,i often feel sympathy for the huge amounts of natives that are thrown into prison ...seems like indigenous people are still struggling to adapt to the ways of the european usurpers ...good luck with your research danica ..

Just type ' indigenous people in prison ? ' in your favorite search engine .I did and got 1,410,000 results.

Here is a site with some numbers and precentages for the year 2008 for Australia.

Colonists were mostly Caucasian whom operated their society on a more complicated and harder to adapt to system.

The Caucasian colonists were also prejudiced of the indigenous inhabitants.

Between the discrimination and having to adapt to "Ducks in a row" stupidity, the indigenous people were left in neglected poverty situations and had no choice but to resort to unlawful acts to survive.

That was a long time ago, but the ways that the indigenous learned to adapt have carried on still even into present day as parents passed their mannerisms onto offspring.

Today, more so than ever, even the Caucasian ascendants of those original colonies now fall victim to their own s***ty system and the ignorant and Draconian stigmas began by their less intelligent ancestors.

Also worth seeing if Rousseau's social contract theory would work. As I understand it, when you live in a society you enter into an agreement of sorts to live by the rules put into place. Obviously indigenous people come into conflict with the society as they have different social customs that may not fall into line with the rules of society.

Yes , I have already went and found that out . I have also learned that New Zealand is one of very few countries where the indigenous people and the 'new comer' pretty much get along . So far I have found only one country where none of it's indigenous people were killed or mistreated.
