What Songs Represent The So-Called "California Sound"?

My impression of 'California sound' are songs that are perky, catchy, very melodic...A new band from the OC called Jet Set Go, for me, fits the bill. Check out their song "Barcelona" -- I just love the 'sunny-California-cool-vibe'! I think the music video is a blast too!

There have been a lot of interpretations of what is the California Sound down the years. When I was a kid it was the sound of the Beach Boys. By the mid to late 60s it was the sound of Scott McKenzie telling us all to go to San Francisco or the mamas and the papas and their california dreaming. Into the 70s and it was America (even though none of the band members came from California. The sound just seemed to 'fit'). Later in the decade came The Eagles. And so it went on. I haven't heard jet set go yet (naff name though) but I will listen out for them. Thanks for posting.

I always thought chilli peppers and no doubt were quite representative of california.
