I've heard there is a bill to give the president the power to shut off the internet, like Egypt did. IMO, this could be a sign the government is running scared. (Sniff, sniff) Do I smell the strong odor of fear coming off liberals and the far left?

I was just going to start looking for that article. They want to make it so people can't reveal the truth over the internet. Do you think all those images and news reports would have surfaced if it weren't for the internet? America would do wise to reject this bill. It is a violation of your rights to free speech and the start of an authoritarian system.

Then why is the left trying to silence the right, such as Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin etc?

they have a point, does the government have a policy where they would take over television and radio in national emergency?

First, there is no way to "kill" internet access here in the US. There are simply too many companies, too many satellites, and too many routes to access to make it even remotely possible.

And the government (state and federal) has "the emergency broadcast system" which is supposed to be used in case of a serious emergency like tornados, flash floods, or nuclear attack.

Broadcast stations are required to test it every day for 30 seconds.. they usually do it in the middle of the night.

It wouldn't be too hard to shut it down. Go after the largest companies initially and pick off the rest later.

You probably aren't aware of this, living in your mothers basement and all, but most of us have internet access from our phones now.. The government would have to shoot down the satellites to shut that down.. and I doubt that AT&T would be too pleased with that.

Shut down the top 10 ISPs and you have about 70% of all internet subscribers offline. lol

But this isn't important, considering the odds of Obama shutting down the internet is the same as me moving out of the basement. lol
