Probably should have put this under the rants and raves section but....why is it that people do not plan ahead for weather events? We are supposed to get another 1-4" of snow tonight but I will bet you a quarter that as usual, there will be people where I work that won't plan on leaving home a little earlier than normal, then complain that their tardiness is due to the weather. Ummm-you already KNOW that there might be travel issues so why are you surprised? People kill me some days.

Does their being late affect YOUR job? Why would it bother you so much?

Cuz you have to listen to them go ON and ON and ON! lol Tis more of peoples stupidity than anything. Years ago I did a ride share thing-the woman I rode with would continually leave town with her gas light 'on'. (lets just say that didn't last long) exactly how are you supposed to stay warm if you go off the road if there is no fuel in the vehicle?

Planning ahead is for the cowardly. The brave leap off the cliff blindfolded.

Half of them know they should leave earlier. But if they get less work-time by acting like they didn't know, why wouldn't they do that?

The department of a factory I once worked in had one man who was up to an hour late 2-3 times a week. I had to let my job go and do his until he showed up. Then I had to catch my work up by myself. It usually meant working through breaks and lunch hour.
One day I just let his job go until he arrived. He got pissed and we went behind the plant and duked it out. He was on time after that, until he quit.

I'd live that way if it didn't affect so many people around me. There is an actual psychological disability that causes some to be chronically late. In most situations, it seems to be the old adage
That can never happen to me I don't know, my friend in Florida is having a fit because it's never this cold this time of year. He follows the weather, is he prepared? NO!!! Call it laziness, disorganization, not caring. Out west they think little of getting around when it snow, it happens often, so it's part of their life. Where I live in Pa., some people act like they have no sense at all.
There's no, one, specific reason; people are people.

It is because people sometimes love the feeling of praising themselves for being so brave and stubborn and doing their ways while having some medium to blame on once/if something go wrong. So they knowingly go for something out of the announced/foreseen conditions. And act all surprised when things go wrong like they haven't seen it. Their fake surprise's only and really because they can't praise themselves for having something accomplished.

I actually do understand where you're coming from on this.

I used to work 2 hours from home, and was late only 1 time in 5 years. I would leave so that I would have extra time for accidents, incidents on the train, weather, etc.

The one time I was late, it took me more than 5 hours to get to work. I was 20 minutes late. That was due to accidents resulting from bad weather.

But planning ahead involves planning and thinking ahead, that's just too much for one brain to handle at a time.

Well, living in North Dakota when you can sometimes get literally four to eight inches of snow in a half an hour, or the temperature can change drastically in minutes, driving is kind of at your own risk. Also, if you are that experienced of a driver you know that you can't always estimate whats going to happen. Here in Bismarck/Mandan, its not uncommon to see cars flipped over just off the interstate or semi trucks slid into the ditch.
