Last night I ordered some things of Amazon (and spent a fair amount of money in the process) but did the order form wrong and ended up seeing that my address wasn't what I'd put in and that the post code was wrong. Thinking this was odd I manually changed the post-code to what it should be and clicked confirm.

When I got the e-mail of confirmation last night however it turned out the address is still wrong and is being dispatched to a different flat number on a different street (5 rather than 6 and Place rather than Path) with the post-code still my post-code but the rest of the address assigned to someone else.

Anyway, when I went to have a look at this I changed the address on my profile and it automatically suggested this other address where I don't live and tried to change it to this address. I have no idea why it is doing that but as it stands it is being sent to the wrong address and wrong post-code. Apparently the order has already been processed and therefore cannot be changed.

Anyone any idea of what I can do?

There might be an option on the order page that lets you contact the seller. That might help.

If it's been despatched via a courier service (rather than just in the post), you should be able to get Amazon to contact the courier with the tracking number and give them the correct address. I Googled and found a customer services number for Amazon, 0800 279 6620, but that was from 2005 so I don't know if it's still current.

Use play.com instead. Cheaper, Faster and more reliable.

The US site has a section in CS where they will call you. Have you tried that? I'm sure the UK site has that option to in the 'contact us' section.

Phoned them up this morning (in actual fact they phoned me up with this cool system where you put in your phone number into the website and they phone you to ensure it doesn't cost the customer anything, thought it was a nice touch), and they said it was too late to change the address on the packaging which they are giving to the courier however as soon as the items are given to the courier they are going to inform them to not send the packages until I have contacted them with my address.

There is an automatic e-mail dispatched when the courier are given the items so I know when to phone them.

Remarkably straight forward and helpful. Normally I hate call centres etc, particularly when it's someone elses fault, in this instance it is my fault yet they seem to be making an effort to be helpful. A really pleasant surprise.

They also said that if I don't contact the courier within a week the courier will send the items back to Amazon where I would receive a full refund (sans delivery charge of ?8), at which point I could re-order the items anyway.

Glad you've got it all sorted. I must say I've never had any problems with Amazon (well not as a customer anyway, as a supplier is another matter).

It actually got better, got an e-mail saying they managed to change the details of the package to my address even though they state in the Terms and Conditions they can't do this. They explained that they managed to do it and the problem is rectified.

Really have to say I'm impressed, normally this sort of beurocracy is set in stone, get the feeling Amazon realised the importance of keeping customers happy. Very happy with the customer service.
