"Hey baby, that was a fun night we had!"

"What are you talking about?"

"You mean you don't remember? Here, I got a picture..."

Britain itself is no better and no worse than a lot of places all over the world.

What was done to this woman was obscene, and the individual who perpetrated it is a very sick individual. But let's look at this another way.... He will get a fair trial. He will be given the opportunity to defend himself. His case will be heard by a jury of his peers who will decide whether he is innocent or guilty, and if guilty, he will be convicted.

I think that makes Britain a rather special place to be. No matter who does what, everybody is given an equal and fair chance to defend themselves within the framework of the law.

I am well aware that there are a lot of very stupid rules on specific instances - we can all say "Oh, so-and-so happened to my Uncle Harry, so the law is s***....", but individual instances don't mean that the basic model isn't sound and worth having.

I would be the first to agree that there are some very sick people living in this country and they do some dreadful things, but there are also sick people in Spain and France and USA and.... oh, just about everywhere. I wouldn't mind betting there are sickos living in Cape Verde too, Wellard.... you just haven't met them yet. At least, living in Britain I know pretty much what goes on. I'm savvy to it and I also know the legal system..... warts and all.

I think I'll stay where I am. Better the devil you know.

What and I don't know what goes on in the country that I reside in?? the fact remains crime is extremely low here where as in the UK it isn't so.I will leave it as that as this isn't about the topic of the thread.

And your extensive experience of the world is...?

I've worked in crime investigation since leaving university five years ago. My wife is a detective sergeant in our county police service. I'm sitting at home alone tonight, because my missus is out on a case and I'm trying to occupy my mind, rather than worrying myself sick about whether or not she'll be home in one piece tonight.

Between us, and the cases we have worked on, I kinda figure that any child-like innocence we may have had at one time has been pretty much wiped out by hard gained experience.

Now, isn't it past your bed time...?

I dated a cop for a while. I really liked the guy, maybe could have loved him but I couldn't handle what you just described. No one who hasn't been there can imagine that. I have never felt so helpless in my life. I miss him sometimes but I know I wouldn't have lasted as a cop's wife. I wish you the best of luck.
I also think your point is a valid one and pertinent. There are many people trying to tear down the safety and security of the free world.(US,UK Israel)claiming there is something better out there. Rule of law is so precious and people just don't realize it.

Just to follow up my last, E/Ender.....

I've just received the text from Manda.... They've got an arrest and she's back at the nick now, with interviews and paperwork to do so won't be home for a while yet. But I can go to bed now, knowing she's ok and will be there when I wake up in the morning.

The thing is....... We do, actually, believe in what we do.

It's important that Law Enforcement Agencies (Police, FSS, etc) have confidence in the system they work for. There is nothing "Child like" or "innocent" about it.

When you lose your belief in why you do something, then it's time to get out.

The woman in Oxford has to have trust in those dealing with her case, that they are professional. That there is a process, and that process is just and fair. That is why we call it "Justice".

We don't have the rule of the mob in this country. We don't do vigilantism... lynching... we have a rule of law and a judicial process. In this way, when (if) she wins her case, she will know that justice has been done. As I said before... it isn't perfect, but it's ours and I'd rather work with and live under our justice system than any other, anywhere in the world. That's why Britain is still a great place to be.

And if you can't understand that.... if this is beyond your comprehension....... then you're the one whose childlike innocence may one day get the wake up call.

I agree with a lot of what you've said. However, there's no need to be quite so patronising just because she doesn't agree with you.
