Why does it not apply to me? I tried to get into a medical university and I was denied. Should I not get points for not being white? Should I sue for racism because I not score high on the tests?

I'm going to keep my opinions on affirmative action to myself . . .

but different schools use different races if they have affirmative action policies. There are some places I've seen that include x, y, & z races, whereas other places include only x & y races and maybe add the g race. It just depends.

Asians are treated very badly in Sydney in my opinion, but it seems to be abating
a bit now there are lots more Asians moving here. The Asian communtity have a
whole different set of prejudices, most of them directed against each other. I
don't really understand it. Like most migrant situations, it takes time,
generations, to settle down..... It should be given that time....

I don't know about Australia but in america you have jobs and places in school that are decided if you are white, black or latino.
The fact you are black or latino will be factors if you get in school because they say white racism forces that. Ok I'm not white or black or latino why am I not included?

Yeah, you should look into it. It's a pretty weird deal. I am 110% in favor of affirmative action... too many history and sociology classes I guess. Minorities have been screwed and still are being screwed in this country.

But the Asian deal is f***ed up. What I've learned is that Asians sort of get shafted. Some colleges actually deduct points from Asians when considering admission. Colleges try to have a student body that is representative of the general population of the country and there often seems to be "too many" Asians who want to go to college. Pretty f***ed up, eh? Of course it depends on the area... Japanese do far better than Vietnamese for example.

Race is still a big factor in American life... I think efforts should be made to right the wrongs of the past... to Asians, to women, to blacks, to Native Americans, to children, etc. It just sucks when Americans (minorities even!) attack policies that attempt to enforce racial justice. It reminds me of when the schools were desegregated in the South... people were so pissed off about it just as people are pissed off about affirmative action now. While affirmative action helps only a handful of minorities and affects only a miniscule percent of whites, racist America still hates the program.

I'd have one guess and say its because you are identified as stonger and better able to
compete. The advantage of affirmative action is it discriminates positively to redress past
inequality. The downside is that it has to be at the expense of the present generation who
weren't responsible for the sins of the past.

Mind you, I'd divert funds from weapons and wars and provide an eduction for everyone

State sanctioned racism isn't the answer. You should be ashamed to support such a racist policy.

True because people like you keep racism alive and well

Good idea lets punish those who live now that had nothing to do with the past. Good strategy for moving ahead to a non racist society.

One form of racism is wrong to you but another form is not. You are a hypocrite.

Like who? Those that didn't score high enough to get into medical school like me?
I would rather be denied based on my scores than excepted based on my race. I believe in merit. Race should not be a factor ever. My comments as to why affirmitive action does not apply to me was to point out the hypocrisy of the idea.
I would be very angry if some court told me I was too stupid to compete on an equal basis with white people and should get extra points based on my race alone.
Please do us minorities a favor and stop condoning racism.

But it's true. To react against racism with racism will not move anything forward. When I first learned how rampant affirmitive action was I was scared I was hired into my job only to fill some quota. I don't want that! I don't want to get a job or get accepted into a school just because they don't have enough asians. I want to get hired or admitted based on my experience or scores.

That is true in NYC too. I find koreans don't like me much because I'm japanese. The same goes for chinese. The japanese did some really horrible things to both in the first half of the 20th century and it still echos in today's generations.
Hopefuly that will be gone soon.

Thats the bad bit about the past, it splashes on people who didn't do it, and don't deserve it.
Most of the people doing the blaming didn't have it happen to them. I know veterans from
WWII and most of them are over it....
