I'd like to pay tribute to all of those who have lost their lifes and who have been injured in the war.

I'm going to update this thread whenever another service person is killed or injured. If others from other countries want to add into this then I'd be really grateful. It's not often that we hear about the "foreign" personnel injured/killed.

RIP to all the brave men and women who have given thier lives.

I hate to tell you this, because you've got a really noble thought here, but 4 minutes have passed, and you haven't updated yet.

Someone is killed in armed conflict somewhere in the world about once a minute..

I do completely agree with the sentiment though, and I appreciate the sacrifices that they, and their families make.

I can only do it for the one's that I hear from the UK (which I will get on my work intranet), we don't tend to hear about the other countries.

Rest in peace to the hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians, men, women and children killed by our "brave" troops.

Rest in peace, little ones. I apologise on behalf of my country, for the actions of our soldiers.

To the innocent civilians of Iraq and Afghanistan, I say sorry for the behaviour of our troops

To the mothers who have lost children. I weep for your loss and apologise from the bottom of my heart.

To the children who have been brutally murdered, maimed, and traumatised by our soldiers, or have been terrified by events you are too young to understand, or have been traumatised when you have witnessed your fathers, or brothers or those you love being beaten and murdered in front of your very eyes..... or have watched your fathers being dragged away by soldiers, and never seen alive again...... I say "sorry".

To every Iraqi or Afghan civilian who goes to bed at night, not knowing if the soldiers will come while it's dark, and kick your door in and point guns at you.... shout at you in a language you don't understand, and then commit the most awful atrocities, safe and smug in the knowledge that their own people will pin medals on their chests and consider them "heroes"..... I say "Sorry".

I disown those men. They don't do these things in my name.

Never in my name.

Your use of inverted commas seems to imply that you don't believe our troops are brave. They risk their lives, as is proved by the steady flow of corpses coming back, in order to try and make the world a better place and that includes for the people of Iraq and Afghanistan. Seems pretty brave to me. Obviously civilian casualties are regrettable, but the soldiers do not go out to purposely kill innocent civilians.

Again, our soldiers do not set out to cause harm to innocent civilians. They are doing the best job they can in difficult conditions. I apologise for the actions of our politicians who, with dubious motives, have sent the troops into these situations.

Our troops are also out there:
Giving medical aid to Afghan and Iraqi civilians,
Helping build infrastructure to give the people better lives,
Educating the people so they can give themselves better lives,
Protecting the civilian populations from extremist oppression.

But you disown these men. They don't do this good work in your name. Never in your name!

Let?s not forget the fallen and the wounded Taliban soldiers. They are brave and courageous too.

Who will remember them? Dying for what they believed was right.

RIP.

Now, if anyone has anything sensible to say on the subject...?

I'd welcome some intelligent discussion on the issue. The personal abuse is not necessary, I know my shortcomings as a person and I live with them quite comfortably, thank you very much.

But my heart's in the right place. I care about people, and I care about what is right and what is wrong.

And what's so wrong with that..?

.

Something sensible to say about the subject? This subject matter belongs in a different thread. As we've spoken about in the Senator Byrd thread, it is tasteless to speak ill of the dead.

This thread is for honoring our fallen and injured troops. Some have chosen to honor the fallen enemy troops. This is not the place to trample on the memories of people who were held dear by their loved ones simply because they were involved in a senseless war. You've now deemed them all guilty by association even if none of them ever pulled a trigger and/or were killed during a routine supply transport.

I agree. this is a tribute thread. No matter the politics or what happens, the service members give their lives up to the military. The military owns them and for repayment the go into battle, spend time away from their loved ones, get told where they are stationed etc.
It is not an easy career, but one that deserves respect and admiration.
