I've found, since my children have become teenagers, that I have a more easy-going relationship with them than I had with my mother. We got on very well but had very little in common. She lived through WWII and I was a teenager in the 70s so the contrast between our lives was very noticeable. I have a lot in common with my daughter, be it music, clothes etc., and I find that we can talk very openly (which I found hard with my mother because of her rather delicate sensibilities). If you have teenagers, do you think that your relationship with them is easier than with your parents or much the same? Did you find it easy to talk to your mum and dad?

I totally agree, I have a wonderful relationship with my munchkins, I never really got along with my Mother, so much so, I cut her out of my life about 5 years ago.

That's a shame. Do you still have no contact? It can be a very difficult relationship, specially when I was young. We thought so differently and since the 60s erupted things changed so much.

No, still no contact, I've forbidden my siblings to even talk to her about me, I really just want nothing to do with her at all, I know it sounds harsh but seriously, you have no idea what a complete b**** she has been to me all my life, but I did learn one important lesson from her, how NOT to bring up my own children. I guess its sad that both the children and I don't even miss her, the kids only saw her maybe once a year but they still managed to give her the title of fire spitting dragon

Good name, by the sounds of it. It isn't harsh, if she's given you a horrible time of it. As you say, at least it gives you a good lesson in child-rearing. It's probably just as well that none of you miss her because that would make it even more painful. She made her bed...

even though i am a few years older than you, i totally agree, my parents both went through the war, i was born just after, and even today me and my 2 girls, 1 is 41yrs the 2nd is 39yrs, we still have a great time of chats and laughs as sadly i didnt with my mum
not cos she was miserable, just the generation gap seemed somehow wider back then
