I really don't like complete silence, especially in an echo-y
environment, I find it uncomfortably eerie! so I nearly always have some kind of back ground noise going on, either the tv or radio, not so much to watch or really listen to, but more so to kill the silence!

are you the type of person who opts for silence or do you like the company of some back ground noise?

My sister-in-law has a silent house and when she puts her children down to sleep, everyone whispers and walks about on tippy toes to avoid waking them, but I was able to vacuum when my kids were sleeping, I think they were used to a variety of noises and would just sleep through it!

I prefer most of the time some background noise; but I have my moments when I like complete silence too, and will wear my ear plugs to get it if I have to. lol

I'm all for background noise. My mom-in-law does the silent house thing and the silence is deafening. Especially at night. You can hear them WHISPERING in bed!!!

I always have some sort of white noise like a fan going somewhere. Did the same when my kids were babies so they would be used to noise.

When company comes over, we have background music or the tv playing something ignorable like America's Funniest Videos or It Only Hurts When I Laugh. Something you won't really get sucked into, but if you find yourself needing something to focus on for a moment (like if your host gets a phone call), it's there and you didn't need to see it from the beginning to enjoy it.

ive kind of got use to it over the years having a house full of kids, there's always some background noise. different types of music, shouting, doors banging the usual.now on the very rare occasions the house is empty its really weird and airy..
il normally put my music on as the quiet spooks me after a while

when im awake i like background noise. but when its sleepy time it has to be completely silent... although not much sleepy time is going on recently.

i heard recently that extroverts are meant to like background noise for sleeping, and introverts are meant to like silence when sleeping... im the furthest thing from an introvert so we can rule that theory out.

My house is usually quite loud so it's nice to have just some quiet music on in the background, or the television. If I'm having a really bad day though I don't listen to any music and prefer to sit in silence.

I had one once that was SO noisy, my neighbor broke it to shut it up..I didn't sleep right for weeks after.

I know...I used to have a clean air filter, that when the filters ran out, I used solely for that reason,(the noise that is) until it burned itself out. lol

I usually drift of to sleep with the tv on until the last possible second, then I climb out of bed, switch the tv off and think bugger! I'm awake again now
