Many resturants use a metre height chart to allow parents to purchase a meal for their kids at reduced child prices.

The same goes for entry into attractions such as theme parks.

Is this system a fair one though?

Many children of the same age are of a different height so is it right that one child can get in or eat but their friend of same age cant?

Which would be a better system?

When I was a kid The Ground Round would have one night they would charge kids meals based on their weight.

For amusement parks the height thing makes sense, because the restraints won't work on someone who is too small.

So that's a safety issue.

For the meals, it should by by weight, and if the kid weighs too much he should just get a freakin salad.

What about by age with proof?
When resturants charge half price for a kids meal...the meal is half the portion so they shouldnt have to pay full price.

If it wasnt for those reduced rates, many families with a couple of kids, wouldnt be able to ever eat out.

Well if they're giving you half the food, and charging you half the price, then anyone should be able to get it..

I get kids meals all the time! Why do they care who's buying it? It's not like they're losing any money.

Thats true but they cant or they would be selling more kids meals than adults!

Some places give an age, say under 12. More often than not now though, they have a height chart which i think is unfair as you could get an eight yr old thats taller than a twelve yr old!

I think in most places, there is nothing stopping someone ordering off a kids menu. I've certainly never been to a restaurant that goes on height to decide what you eat.

No they wouldn't. Childrens meals are smaller, so they wouldn't class as a meal for most adults, and they are generally plainer with less choice. Most adults will chose an 'adult' meal, more food and more choice over what to eat

Im talking RESTURANT here NOT cafes, fast food places and the like.
Many resturants in London use this system as do attractions such as London Zoo etc

So was I...

Maybe that's the case in London, but in all the RESTAURANTS I've been to there is no height restriction for childrens meals...maybe you should stop eating at the zoo and at attractions...

That's just ridicolous. I have been to a few restaurants that have 'light eater' options for the elderly, kids or just adults who don't want a big portion. IMO, that's how it should be done.
I also like the early bird specials Full portions at discount prices
