I think not. To find out how for free speech the BNP really are, one test is to go on to youtube and in the search bar type in either "hope not hate" or "uaf" and see how many videos posted by BNP members appear to have the comments censored.

How can you tell? Well you could post a comment which disagrees with the person who posted the video and see how long it lasts there. Also anything supported either Hope Not Hate or Unite Against Fascism could also be used to test it. I haven't done this simply because I've looked at the comments section and found that the ones that have stayed up under some videos appear to all be pro-BNP and agreeing with the poster.

My favourite example would be this clip taken from a Sky News feature in which a random old man on the street on a BNP campaigner. The video identifies him as a member of Unite Against Fascism but the man gives neither his name nor that of any organisation. He simply says that he is against the BNP and the idea of them recieving publicity. Yet none of the comments point this out. They all either deride the old man or go on to anti-semitic or racist rants. clicky

While I don't exactly support the way the old man expressed his feelings (a good heckling might have been a tad more appropriate) I do appreciate that he has a right to express them. I just hope he wasn't charged with assault or anything.

The BNP's members don't even have free speech. They can't speak to anyone about the party unless the leadership lets them. And they aren't allowed to talk to 'proscribed' individuals that the BNP leadership has designated as too critical of their politics. If they do, they are disciplined by a leadership tribunal and possibly expelled.

Now that you mention it I'm sure I remember reading that at some point. It might have been something you linked to because I remember replying "this is like something you'd expect from a religious cult" or something to that effect.

The main reason for the rise of the BNP is that the liberal left in government and the media for years stifled any debate when the subject of immigration came up.

No reasoned debate was allowed "playing the race card" was the the cry....remember that?...

Anyone that even attempted to point out that mass immigration might not be the greatest thing for this country since the failure of the spanish armada, was villified as a racist.

Mass immigration is a disaster for this country and we have only seen the first wave from the EU.Bulgaria and Romania wiil soon have the same rights as the rest of the EU to come here, so we can expect a massive influx from these places.

In the case of Bulgaria its Ironic considering the way they treated the Turks in their country just a few years ago.

The BNP is not going to go away untill the very real concerns of hundreds of thousands of people in this country are addressed.

Shouting them down, rigging Question Time, branding thousands of decent people as thick, stupid, ignorant, racist natzis because they are desperate, and see no other party taking their concerns seriously will not halt the BNP.

It is because of this attitude that the BNP has grown.

If the politicians and media of this country continue in the same way then the BNP will continue to grow.

BTW is the BNP policy of providing immigrants that want to go back to their country of origin with the air fare not the policy of Labour as well?

1) As has just been pointed out in the media, capping immigration figures might not work out too well. If we were to put a cap of say 10,000 a year then not only would the net immigration figures then becomes negative, potentially reducing the population, but number 10,001 might be an international expert in cardiology or paediatrics who wants to work in one of our hospitals. A blanket cap would not work and, in the case of EU immigrants, is technically illegal. They have as much right to come and live and work here as you do to go and live and work in Spain. Deal with it.

2) Question Time was not rigged. It just showed what an idiot NG is. He tried to convince a black American woman that the Ku Klux Klan are peaceful for frick sake!

3) No other party taking people's concerns seriously is laughable. Labour have been working on adjusting the numbers for years and both the Lib Dems and the Tories have a few ideas on the matter. Only yesterday David Cameron put forward the idea of capping non-EU immigration at the tens of thousands mark. This was put down by both Gordon Brown and Nick Clegg as something that works in a focus group but can be damaging in reality.

4) No. The BNP have far different ideas on how to get rid of immigrants, including people who are the descendants of any non-caucasian immigrants. But as well as that the BNP are anti-semitic, anti-feminist and do fit the bill for neo-nazism with links to neo-nazi groups in other countries.

But it's also not the first time. Remember this guy?
David Copeland He was a BNP member who believed that in planting nail bombs across London he was inciting a race war that would eventually take down some weird Jewish conspiracy that the government were in on.

What does deal with it mean... What do I have to deal with?

2) Question Time was not rigged. It just showed what an idiot NG is. He tried to convince a black American woman that the Ku Klux Klan are peaceful for frick sake!

I never have nor will I ever vote for or support the BNP. I have no intention of attempting to defend them either... But that Question time was rigged. Of that I and many others that do not support the BNP or have an attack of the vapours every time they are mentioned, have no doubt.

As I said to even mention immigration used to be greated with the knee jerk "playing the racist card" crap or by calling those that did attempt to raise the issue racist.

It is IMO, because of the rise of the BNP that the mainstream parties have at long last started to talk about it. In the end though that is all they will be able to do...talk about it... they have given away the powers to govern ourselves to Europe, so no matter who the sheep here vote for nothing will change.

Poinless getting your knickers in a twist about who gets in at the next election, our laws are now made in Europe.

4) No. The BNP have far different ideas on how to get rid of immigrants, including people who are the descendants of any non-caucasian immigrants. But as well as that the BNP are anti-semitic, anti-feminist and do fit the bill for neo-nazism with links to neo-nazi groups in other countries.

No? Oh I thought that the government would pay to repatriate immigrants that wanted to go back. Surprised the left dont think this is a good idea...maybe not paying for em to go back is an infingement of theit "Yuman Rites"

Ok was that misspelling at the end a genuine mistake or do you always spell like that. As for paying immigrants to go back, the only party I've ever heard talking about that would be the BNP.

You know what? I can't remember that.

For as long as I can remember, the overwhelming majority of people I've talked to about the subject have had a serious problem with immigration. And yet everyone seems to think they are somehow breaking the mould by saying so. Everyone thinks that they somehow aren't allowed to complain, but everyone constantly f***ing complains about it. I also distinctly remember an open debate between the BNP leader and other party representatives on TV recently. Which is remarkable, since the BNP are terrified of talking to other parties or the media about their politics.

Comparing "mass" immigration to the Spanish Armada is ridiculous.

@retep Said

Mass immigration is a disaster for this country and we have only seen the first wave from the EU.Bulgaria and Romania wiil soon have the same rights as the rest of the EU to come here, so we can expect a massive influx from these places.

"Massive influx"? When was the last of these "massive" influxes of people? I think immigrants accommodate a far larger part of the public consciousness than is really warranted. They are not nearly as much of a problem as the tabloids make out, if they are even a problem at all. I doubt our country would be as prosperous, as progressive or as tolerant if it wasn't for immigration.

@retep Said

Other way around. Labour did exactly what you are suggesting now, attempting to appease bigots by aping the BNP - but the difference is, the BNP want to make it the law that you have to be white to live in the UK. It seems to me that people who like the BNP but are ashamed to say it just say that the government should be doing what the BNP want.

I'm glad that the government is not motivated by patriotic ideology but by economic pragmatism in its policies on immigration. I don't care about the fake flag-waving pop culture which white British people have swarmed around in an attempt to feel like they have an ethnic group. I'll be glad to see it undermined.
