The main reason for the rise of the BNP is that the liberal left in government and the media for years stifled any debate when the subject of immigration came up.
No reasoned debate was allowed "playing the race card" was the the cry....remember that?...
Anyone that even attempted to point out that mass immigration might not be the greatest thing for this country since the failure of the spanish armada, was villified as a racist.
You know what? I can't remember that.
For as long as I can remember, the overwhelming majority of people I've talked to about the subject have had a serious problem with immigration. And yet everyone seems to think they are somehow breaking the mould by saying so. Everyone thinks that they somehow aren't allowed to complain, but everyone constantly f***ing complains about it. I also distinctly remember an open debate between the BNP leader and other party representatives on TV recently. Which is remarkable, since the BNP are terrified of talking to other parties or the media about their politics.
Comparing "mass" immigration to the Spanish Armada is ridiculous.

Mass immigration is a disaster for this country and we have only seen the first wave from the EU.Bulgaria and Romania wiil soon have the same rights as the rest of the EU to come here, so we can expect a massive influx from these places.
"Massive influx"? When was the last of these "massive" influxes of people? I think immigrants accommodate a far larger part of the public consciousness than is really warranted. They are not nearly as much of a problem as the tabloids make out, if they are even a problem at all. I doubt our country would be as prosperous, as progressive or as tolerant if it wasn't for immigration.
@retep Said
In the case of Bulgaria its Ironic considering the way they treated the Turks in their country just a few years ago.
The BNP is not going to go away untill the very real concerns of hundreds of thousands of people in this country are addressed.
Shouting them down, rigging Question Time, branding thousands of decent people as thick, stupid, ignorant, racist natzis because they are desperate, and see no other party taking their concerns seriously will not halt the BNP.
It is because of this attitude that the BNP has grown.
If the politicians and media of this country continue in the same way then the BNP will continue to grow.
BTW is the BNP policy of providing immigrants that want to go back to their country of origin with the air fare not the policy of Labour as well?
Other way around. Labour did exactly what you are suggesting now, attempting to appease bigots by aping the BNP - but the difference is, the BNP want to make it
the law that you have to be
white to live in the UK. It seems to me that people who like the BNP but are ashamed to say it just say that the government should be doing what the BNP want.
I'm glad that the government is not motivated by patriotic ideology but by economic pragmatism in its policies on immigration. I don't care about the fake flag-waving pop culture which white British people have swarmed around in an attempt to feel like they have an ethnic group. I'll be glad to see it undermined.
