How much privacy should we sacrifice in the name of public safety? It was said in another thread that anyone wishing to fly a plane should be subjected to strip searches in the name of safety. It's been said before that there should be video cameras in people's homes who have criminal records. It's been suggested more seriously that we should at least have our fingerprints/dna on record from birth.

At what point, though, does safety become less important than the privacy that is taken from us to secure it?

Our TSA has NO vision about how to simplify the search. There are those among us who have absolutely NO thought about blowing up planes. Yet they are searched.
Other fields are also hampered WRT not identifying dangerous subjects. Health is another field. AIDS and HIV carriers are not identified to their partners because of that same personal PRIVACY rule..

We can do all we can but not everything can be prevented unfortunately, I just hope it's not on the scale of 9/11 if a terrorist attack does happen again.

Terrorists will always find other ways of doing things, but I think it is important for Governments to maintain a good balance of protecting the country and protecting people's privacy. If we can't trust our own government with our information, then more people may be less inclined to trust that they will protect us from threats like this.

It is possible to scan without doing a strip search though, I heard on the news they are running a trial of some new body scan things at an airport which doesn't infringe on privacy to such a great extent in comparison to other forms of searching. But even then liquids may not have been picked up either so it isn't a sure-fire way of combating terrorism.

I chose safety. I thing that virtual strip search machine should be STANDARD. For anyone who is concerned about privacy, no one is stopping you from finding an alternate mode of transportation. ANYONE can get on a train.

Idk too much about the machine but I thought it was kinda like an X ray. I thought it would pick something like that up because it is non flesh or clothes.

I don't know about that.

Wow you're right. Man that seems like such an easy way around it too!
