Do you think Weed should be:
Legalized (taxed)
Decriminalized
Left as it is

As a rather young empty nester (42) I finally feel like it's my turn to let my hair down a bit. While raising my kids I abstained from any intoxicants. However, I really believe that if I want to partake in a smoke in the privacy of my home (similar to a beer) I should have that right.
I don't believe it's a "Gateway" drug. I believe that the reason people believe that is that many unfortunately enter the same social circles (as heavier users) in their efforts to buy/use pot. I think that taking it out of the shadows might help solve this.

SO MY QUESTION: Does smoking weed make me a misfit? If in every other area of my life I am a productive member of society?

No, I dont think it does make you a misfit, I know lots who do and none of them have ever wanted to move onto other things, but like anything else such as alcohol and smoking... All in moderation.

I totally agree about Moderation! My weekend job is as a bartender and I have to say I see far worse with alcohol!

PS. I love your user name!

i'd say that it says very little about us as responsible adults... it just depends on the mindset we approach it with-- but then it's that mindset and not the pot that speaks about us...

Yes I can agree with that, the mindset I use though is people smoke and people drink, I don't really see weed in much of a different light, more somewhere in between the two, whereas others see it in a different light, so yeah I get what your saying its down to personal perception.

My conflict is that I feel as if my hiding my use and sneaking around to buy it sends the signal what I am doing is wrong, and I don't feel it is wrong. We've been brought up in such an age of freedoms it's weird....

Well that you brought this up. Medicine is just now seriously beginning to address pot as a possible aid or cure for certain ailments.

No it does not.

First off the law itself is a double standard.

Both alcohol and tobacco have been proven more harmfull then pot.

Yet pot is still illegal.

It is well know that pot was made illegal because the paper industry didn't want to spend money changing there ways by using hemp which was proven to be much more efficient and would save more trees.

Second of all smoking pot through a vaporizer will get rid of the negative physical components. (Carbon dioxide and tar)

Alot of successful, well educated people smoke it.

Like teachers, cops, doctors, surgens, nurses, lawyers and mental health workers, I even know a judge whos lawn I used to cut that smokes it.

So no worries your normal.

I used to smoke quite a bit of pot from 18-24 years old. It was the gateway to other abuse for me, but I'm not saying it is for all. I married and had a kid and quit all drugs and seldom drank alcohol while I was in the family mode. Now divorced and living alone and no one to be responsible for, except myself, I partake with friends occasionally. No harm to anyone but myself.

It means smoking weed isn't that responsible considering it's illegal and no different from heavy drinking or cigarette smoking.

I agree with legalization, personally. As with anything, yes, anything, it can become habit forming and addictive, but, once again, there is NOTHING that is immune to that.

I think it's your choice and no one elses business but your own, if you're not harming anyone then i don't see a problem with it. Also i wouldn't have thought it would make you a misfit, i know plenty of people who smoke it and it's just the norm.

Actually it's scientifically proven to be less harmful then even moderate drinking and/or cigarette smoking.

It's not the substance that make it responsible or not, it's the reason why you use it that decides that.
