Also, a man says he worked with Heene on creating the balloon hoax earlier this year, sold his story to Gawker.com.

This guy's fantasy of fame is crumbling around him.

We had a survey done here where we called in and voted whether it was "Put on" by his Dad and the majority voted "YES".

I think he did it for fame and exposure and used his child to promote it which is wrong in my opinion.

I think if there is sufficient evidence to prove he did it they should make it his last stand for fame ever.

This was unacceptable and taught the child that any ploy can be used in gaining what you want in life which is the worst offense he committed to me.

As for all the publicity and the departments involved in rescuing his knowingly safe child has to carry some consequences even if just to discourage any body else that wants to promote themselves at the expense of their children and the facilities which should only be used for very serious and dangerous matters.

I say, go for it all the way and make an example of him!

Good! The little boy kinda already spilled the beans. On Larry King Live when the father asked the boy why he did it, the boy said:
"I though you said we did it for the show?"

Then the dad got all defensive.

They did this on Mythbusters a few years ago. I think it took 80 helium balloons to lift a young child.

I didn't sleep much last night and I'm getting all my numbers messed up today. You are right, it was close to 1,000 and the girl was 8.

It was all a hoax? Would've been amazing if the kid was up in it and it was all real.

Im glad they are going to press charges. A parent should not set that kind of example to their kids, nor pressure them into lying. What kind of people will the kids be if they think that s*** is ok.

Good. I hope they are fully and properly prosecuted for this pathetic stunt.

After reading more on them the other day, I now remember seeing them on their first appearance of Wife Swap. They are LOOPY. Fine and dandy if you're into storm chasing and UFO's but to pull this kind of crap, not right at all.

I found it. It took 3,500 balloons to lift a 4 year old 40lb girl.

https://news-briefs.ew.com/2009/10/18/sheriff-holds-news-conference-confirming-the-balloon-boy-incident-was-a-hoax-parents-could-face-jail-time/

The sherriff held a news conference today saying that the entire family was in on the hoax and had rehearsed it several times before orchestrating it, which is why the police believed them initially. But they now plan on filing several charges against the parents, but not the kids due to their ages.

It would be insane to charge those young kids with anything. I don't want to see the parents get any jail time either, but I think a repayment schedule needs to be worked out for the funds that were spent on the hoax. I don't think this family has any money.
