I dont think it would go as far as a Civil War, but i can say that the U.S. news on MSNBC, tells me that the healtcare reform, is getting some people very angry, one even bought a gun, of course he did not pulled it out, but he brought a gun it was visible and nothing happened, like it is normal, he said he has the right to do this, so.... but even that it was Odd. I think That Obama should have wait a little for that, because of the economy, now he has two big problems on his hand, and people are not happy about all of this. I sure hope everything will fall in to place and that everyone will have what they need.

Oh, I believe their quite happy taking all they can get from government.

You're confusing white trash with hillbillys- government in the form of a night of old farts around the spitoon, policies created there and enforced by shotguns.

I remember there being comment made about how the outgoing government had ended up with the old Confederacy.

Other than that, I doubt it would be in anyone's interest. Secession has often been a sabre rattler when some people don't get what they want...

The civil war itself was not fought over slavery. On the contrary it was fought over states rights. The right of the state to govern itself apart from the federal. If you dive into history slavery was being slowly removed from the south. Some of the legislatures of the south even had their own bills limiting it or phasing it out prior to the war. The setting is the same now states rights have been all but eliminated and it is causing major problems. The constitution of the Federal government was designed to balance the powers. It has been ignored and corrupted far too long. The seventeenth amendment needs repealed. Justices that do not follow their oath of office need to be removed using the 'good behaviour' given us by our forefathers. Our representatives need to be held accountable to the people that voted them in. If these things aren't put into effect we could have another civil war. Or haven't you noticed the increase in militias here in the states. It is a dangerous time for the USA. It isn't about race but about rights.

Please tell me exactly what states rights have been eliminated, and who eliminated them.

Thanks

All right here are but a few of the 'simple' ones. Your child's education has been taken over by the federal government not your local board or state....speed limits are monitored by the feds and if the state goes above a certain level they are told to reduce it or lose funding the only part the fed is supposed to regulate is between the states....drug laws are handled at the federal level instead of the state level also...there other examples out there if you look. According to the constitution the federal government was only to regulate between states not within states. Anything within the state itself was to be the states rights to handle not the federal....

I'm sad for America, In 1976 your bicentenial year, as a young kid of 19, I hitchiked across America.I met all kinds of people from all walks of life and was left with a great love for your country.( I briefly thought about applying for citizenship.) In those day's viet nam had finally ended, people were tired of division, and I saw a country of compassion and entepreneurial genius. Then in 1980 came Reagan and I saw the division of your people begin. Rich vs poor, right versus left, secular vs religious. You folks in the states created an incredible country out of the ashes of slavery and civil war. And now all I see in the U.S. is division and strife between Liberals and Conservatives fueled by lies and half truths disguised as journalism. I just pray the American people can truly overcome someday.

You would be the kind of US citizen I wish we had more of!

Interesting topic. Living in the south I know firsthand of those that still fly the confederate flag. There's some hardcore southerns that have carried the tenacity of their forefathers that fought in the war. So they aren't happy the way things are and quite frankly that the south lost altogether. It's almost like they'd be willing to fight themselves. Whether or not slavery is an issue never comes under discussion in public circles, but they do want to live their own way and keep government out of their lives.
Now that one point I can see. But let's just say that for the kinds of people I'm talking about, the way they want to live and the way I want to live is, well...different.

tes just a simple life in the life no harm meant by the confedrate flag its not a hate thing its a southern thing
we dont go around looking for trouble were just fine untill some a** sticks their business in ours they need to just stay out of our business and everybody else's and why would slavery be an issue now ? that was many many years ago in the war yes i agree it never should have happend but it did and its history
its not in todays time so let it go

Point for point.

Educational minimum standards have been set for the country. Your state can choose to exceed them or add to them if they so choose. For that matter, your city, town or county can do the same to the state standards.
Minimum standards were put into place by our former president, with bipartisan support, because they improve the quality of education for the poorest performers. They do nothing for top performers, but nothing need be done there.

Federal funding for highways, bridges and roads is given to states to be used wisely, and to create safe and reliable interstate traffic. Because the funding is for INTERSTATE traffic, the federal government does get to decide the rules. If you live on a side street, and it doesn't cross a state line, then the federal government has no say.

Drug laws are federal, because in the 20's quacks were selling mineral oil with opium and cocaine in it, and telling people it was good for everything from poor memory to constipation. The FDA was created to oversee what drugs could and could not legally be sold anywhere in the US. If Texas decided that it was legal to prescribe heroin, what would stop people from New Mexico from buying it there and taking it home with them? Do you suppose we should have border checkpoints at all state lines?

And which of these three is a big enough deal to decide that it's time to storm the District of Columbia? Is it that you don't want you child to be able to pass basic tests in English and Math before being sent into the world, or that you want to drive as fast as you'd like, or that it's not as easy to get good drugs on the street anymore?

I don't think that any of the three is a good enough reason to take up arms.

I postponed answering for a while. Sorry...The point wasn't the examples I gave. The point is that no where in the constitution does it give the federal government those powers. Just like the federal gov. was not to remove any of the states rights or the individuals rights by passing any laws against them. Amendment 17 which removed the states from choosing the senators and having the people elect them should not have been passed and needs repealed. This was a basic state right to be represented in the government. While you might think is perfectly fine for the federal gov. to TELL the states what to do in return for more money. I do not. This concept effectively limits the state's capacity to function. If your employer pays you and you buy a car with the money does the employer have the right to tell you not to park it in the street. Same concept. Why are people unhappy right now? Loss of right to privacy, loss of rights of free speech, loss of parental rights, and the list can go on and on. Remember the reasons why this country was founded. The number one reason was individual freedom.

What right to privacy do you not have now that you had 10 years ago?

loss of rights of free speech

What are you not allowed to say now that you were allowed to say 10 years ago?

No, it had a lot more to do with religion and taxes.

Actually it was individual freedom. The right of the individual to believe, say, pursue happiness, etc. Your right to privacy is no longer quite as it should be. ANYTHING you have on your computer can be used against you. The courts need not issue a warrant for it like they do for your paper files. Secondly have you read your social security card? It is against the law for anyone to require it but they all do. Then there is the matter of privacy in your emails, bet you didn't realize there is a computer that monitors all emails for certain words and phrases? Oh and that it has also been ruled that your emails are not private property either? If your a student try to stand up on campus and say a prayer. You will be told that you can not do that and if you persist you will be arrested. So much for free speech.

Please cite proof for these items.
I removed the social security number portion, because I know that there are times when you must produce a number by law, but I don't think you want to prove your point by endorsing illegal immigrants getting American jobs, so just show proof for the rest..

And why didn't you put in the illegal phone tapping that our former president decided was vital to our nations security?

Perhaps rather than a civil war, it is going to be more like a cold war between the polarities like liberals and conservatives, Christian?s and non-Christians, or even eventually those with a job and those without of work.

There certainly seems to be a lack of empathy between our citizenry, between the haves and the "have nots," whether it be about having money or having health insurance.

It makes no difference whether these unfortunate one?s are mostly children. The working poor are those person's caught in the middle between the priviledged and government intervention.

Unfortunately too many people take their ideas of what is right and proper from the multiple ads playing across our TV screen and put there by wealthy vested interests.

Unfortunately as well many of the people taken advantage of are those who cannot motivate themselves against such treatment. And so it continues with increasing hatred as its natural by-product.
