Some advice..
August 20, 2009 @ 11:24:40 am
Hi Guys, looking for some advice on a Business matter I have.

Just started up as a self employed recruiter (second time in my life). The last time I went for an easy life and sold my last business. Being made redundant has made me think I should do it again. A guy actually approached me and made me an offer to work with him and split things down the middle and that's it. His 50% is to support me in producing money for the business.. Easy i thought no over heads for me head down and do it..

I am not blowing my trumpet but I have been running now for less than 2 weeks and have done very well so far business wise, with a pipeline of about 30-40K if things pull off.... worse case scenario I should see it in 3-4 months.

The problem is, I feel that this guy isn't dynamic enough and his business before had to be down sized. He keeps buying into franchises which makes me feel he isn't good at doing this alone.

I was promised a few things like "Monster Jobs" access and a few other bits and bobs.. but its not his access its another companies that he has a franchise with.

I don't do franchises but he has mentioned me to both of them, and they are more than interested in moving in and helping me out.. but for a cut..... In the end I will be paying out for this that and the other, and then will have hardly any money left for me... well.. about the same as a normal job.... I dont know what to do??

INvestigate to go alone..? or play it by ear? or Approach a big company that has everything ready to go, and buy into them with my work on the books..? which one company will do.. but I am back on a contract with a salary.. and answering to Directors again....

Whats your thoughts guys..?

I agree. You may not have as many clients? but you'll make more with less work not sharing the profits.

It really all comes down to money doesnt it??

If you can finance it, and are comfortable with the future risks, then ideally your best off alone.

Having said that, im not a huge risk taker, and i probably wouldnt take on something big alone myself.

You sound like you have had plenty of experience with this, and know what you are doing either way, trust your gut xo

Thats some good advice everyone!

Kat, my gut feels that I should try and go alone.. but the cost implications at first are high, and not worth investing in.. hence why I let this guy worry about that. However I still have this option, but need to chat to the company that would take me on...

I am so confussed what option is best.. but ultimately I need to be making money before I can make a decision... or do i?? AHHH!!
