What do you think of a Mayor offering homeless people a one way ticket out of the State?
Actually, I think this is a good idea. They have to prove they have relatives at their choice of destination to care for them.

As long as they have someone to care for them. Would hate to see this done to shove them onto another city

Hasn't this been done before by another city? Im sure i remember something like this.

In the old days people would get paid to leave town and be someone elses problem.

I think this is why they have to prove they have family to go to.

Ever noticed that we are in an age of ...

Problem makers, Trouble shifters and Credit grabbers????

All too often, it seems to be an option to shift someone on to another place, giving another more problems rather than try sort it out themselves. Yet, if there is any progress or profit, who shouts out then, to grab the credit??

I've seen it all too often.

City's have tried everything from purchasing hotels, jails, etc, but I really think this may be a good idea.
Homeless people get down on their luck and family's usually don't know where they went or who they are staying with, etc. More families might offer help if they only knew how to.
Now of course, if this family member has been a burden to the family, and never tried to pick themselves up, this could be a different story.
Aren't most of us just one or two paychecks away from homelessness? I know I keep telling my sister, always keep an extra room open, cause you never know when I may need it.

NO it pisses me off.

You know why, cause they're f***ing pushing their problems on to other states who already have a homeless problem. THEY NEED BE TAKING CARE OF THIER OWN s***, isntead of pushing it on to other states.

Yes NY is sending one mainly to two places...some place in mexico and Orlando, Fl.

I already hate that we have such a problem...we're building tent city for god's sake and here they are pushing their homeless on to us.

Not really. Statistics show...that very few stay "taken care off." You have to understand that a large population of the homeless either have no drive, haven't worked in such a long time, have no address etc that its hard for them to even get a job. Not to mention, some are drug addicts or have mental problems (hence the reason why they became homeless)

Its a large burden on the state, even if we can rehabilitate them...its us the taxpayer's that are paying for it.

Where does it say they have to prove there are relatives at the destination?

OH i guess it doesnt'. I was half asleep when I read that and misread a paragraph so thought the OP was right..
Then where are they going when they get there?

If they had family to go to that would be different.

Just because they go to family who will "take care of them" doesn't mean they will stay. Some of the homeless have issues, and getting help means medication or sobriety. While they might think it is a good idea to begin with, who knows what will happen a month, a week, a few days down the line.
Of course, we would all like them to get better, but we can't always force things on them. So moving them to another city, could eventually be giving that city one or more homeless person for their shelters, jails, hotels, and streets.

I do too...but I don't want to pay for New York's homeless. I rather pay for my state (which already has a high rate) then the all the other states that push their problem on us. We're already trying to combat our homeless problem...and barley keeping up. I mean we're building tent city for god's sake. What chance do we have when another state pushes their problem on to us?

Don't you see why im mad? NY is not talking care of the problem, they're just pushing on to other and making it bigger. Instead of spending 50 million on this "re-locating" thing, why not spend 50 million on rehabilitating them? If the homeless (a large population) can become productive working citizens, its good for the economy, especially a states economy. But their doing the exact opposite. It pisses me off.
