Tonight the 24 hour drinking licence comes in, which means any pub or bar wanting to stay open can with a 24 hour licence!

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Im rather pleased about it, but i think there should be a lock in time at 11.30pm so that you dont get pissed up gangs crashing in!

Anyway what your thoughts??

I'm not keen on this...That means that there may be more drunken abuse/ fights/crime in the streets.

This is why i think a sensible lock in time! Those already in the pub can stay, but you cant pub hop! I think that will mean that there arent loads of people piling into the street at 11.30 all at the same time and there wont be gangs of drunks going on to the next pub!

Lock them in and they go home in thier own sweet time or until they run out of cash! Then they have to go home! It will stop everyone piling on to the street at the same time hence fighting! A lot of people dont go out till ten, then they are thrown out of the pub at 11.30 all bevvied up and angry! Makes sense to me

i think it's a good idea... i think it'll end uplike it was wher i was on holiday this year. people will go out later in the evening and be more relaxed.

it'll mean that we won't be kicked out the pubs at a silly time. people who don't like clubbing won't have to go home at 11.30, they can sit in the pubs having a good time until they're ready to go home. the aount of times i been kicked out of pubs where id've been quite happy to stay.

i think people will get rowdy and drunk for the first week or so, but once they're used to it, it'll calm down and they'll just accept it.

It has the good and bad sides to it, but was a bit peed off when I went to my local shop and found it hanging with black material, likeshrouds covering all the booze!

Apparantly he has to reapply for his license which he only got in May, surely the coucil knew what was happening and could have made the necessary arrangements.

24 hour opening is good for the publicans, and the government, (more revenue,) but will overstretch the emergency services.

Also pubs in residential areas, having 24 hour licenses will cause probs for the residents....I was woken by a drunken brawl and smashing windows at 0530 this morning...notto mention car doors slamming and horns beeping!

am in favour of the 24 hour license it can only be a good thing if ou think about it..........lets take the nightclub i go to it used to close at 3am and everyone left the club at the same time and thats when the fights start and now it closes later people seem to leave the club at different times from each other and the fighting rate has dropped dramatically.

I suppose it is a bit different in Australia because at least in melbourne there must be hundreds of places to drink that stay open till all hours of the morning. Most places you will find are away from houses so noise isn't an issue and people don't scull down 20 beers because the pubs don't close at midnight so they tend to be a bit more relaxed with drinking. It really doesn't matter what the laws are though you will always have your people who cause trouble and spoil it for those of us who enjoy a drink and a dance and have a good time.
