Agency rates FTW!!! As soon as I get my student id badge through (and I'm off maternity ) I'm SOOOOO doing agency shifts on an early sunday morning!

I used to do weekend nights and make more in 2 days than I could a week working for the NHS.

Bank holidays were the best

I'm sick of people acting like prison is a hotel. They forget that it's still depriving people of their freedom. It's still a punishment and they're not as soft as the tabloids make them out to be. They may not be as tough here as they are over in the States but guess what - we have lower prison incarceration rates, lower crime rates and lower homicide figures than they do. People assume that the primary role of a prison is to be a harsh punishment but it also serves to rehabilitate and finally, women are harsher on those accused or convicted of child abuse than men are.

We have lower crime rates over in britain because we have about 99% less people over here than in the states!
If the dear sweet little prisoners dont want to be locked up dont do the crime!
PRISON ISNT MEANT TO BE A f***ING HOTEL! Its called prison because thats what it is (or thats what it SHOULD be) but thanks to people like you its not.
The governements idea of rehabilitating child sex offenders in the past is to let them out of jail after a month for good behaviour and then put them in new accomodation next to the local kindergarten.

s***! Where do you people come from?

I was talking more in the respect of an NHS home (there are some around believe it or not) and people like the resident doctors/nurses being paid more but you're right people who own the private home set the wages.

Why don't the carers at the NHS places get paid more? minmum wage at most places?

do you think thats right? I know you have a low opinion of the uneducated manual worker but still....

Ever been into a prison?

Yes i used to work in drug rehab and a lot of my work was in a prison.
To be honest, they give the prisoners (if we can call them that) privelages to keep the masses under control...Certainly not because its the right thing to do, and as for no drug rules and rehab...forget it, theres more in there than on the streets.

Rehabilitation for sex offenders works It lowers re-offend rates from about 80% to about 20% if done regularly and properly.

Also a rate is a percentage a level is a straight number of people

The thing that gets me is people think they are doing good by saying "NO death penalty" "Dont punish them TOO much"! When really, they are the problem.

Yeah Never mind that the crime rates are put into a percentage so that they can be more easily compared or the fact that our equally lenient, fellow European countries have the same thing going for them.

As for the "hotel" part. Of course it's not meant to be a hotel and it's not. Once again, have you never heard of exaggeration? Criminal Law has two schools of thought on the subject. One stresses punishment and the other rehabilitatioin. The true answer has been shown to lie somewhere in between. Prison should be a punishment but it shouldn't be too harsh and should work with criminals to help them with any issues and prevent re-offense.

Yeah? Once again, compare the homicide rates or Europe where there is no death penalty with the US then come back and talk to me.

I can and will if I can remember the damned name of a specific centre that was shut down.

The facts are out there if you care to look for them.

I mean do you really think someone who can only get sexual satisfaction from buggering kids or raping women can ever be cured and start getting his/her kicks from fantisising about anne robinson like everyone else?

I believe that a lot of people who are sexual offenders have mental health issues that in time with the correct medications/therapies can be bought under control so they won't re-offend.

how many states in the us actually have the death sentence?

the US allows nutters to carry weapons. the uk doesn't allow anyone to carry them.
