I worked in a school once and I had left the job for something else before the check even came back on me.

I was there for about 2 months.

Thats what im saying, the government needs to do something about it. Its the most important job in the world and also the hardest and lowest paid...Its fkn shocking.

But what precisely can the government do? Unless you want them to start 24 hour round the clock surveillance for everyone in the country!

They have to do them in some professions. They didn't do one on Huntly because he was only going for a janitorial position, one where he wasn't expected to have contact with the kids.

Not sure thats true but haven't proof atm.

Yeah, it is quite s*** how long they can take! I think it varies on the area you're in. When I had one done for a job, it took a month to come through.

Yeah I know. My grandpa's wife works as a carer as does my flatmate, a nursing student. I would have loved to have had that job, working with older people but I couldn't afford the wait, especially since I was waiting to hear about uni places.

Yeah but a history involving sexual assault on children is one that should show up.

Yeah a history showing anything of any consequence would show up.

I technically have a record (due to a run in with the DVLA ) BUT it never shows up on CRB checks as it's not really relevant.

Carer jobs are bloody hard work, and not generally too fun either but for a lot of uneducated people (or people without any other alternative) it pays the bills and that's all that matters.

TBH I don't think it was a lack of vetting that allowed her to be in that situation more her being manipulative and devious.

Mine took about a month (8 weeks when one got sent off in the middle of the postal strikes ) and I'v never been allowed to start work without one.

Exactly. My gran was b****ing about it today and I stopped her by saying that if George didn't have a record, had the qualifications and passed interview then there was no reason to have suspected her of anything when she was hired.

CRB check Chica, I;ve had about a million of them done.

Not all offences show on them either, it's at the local police something or other's digression.

I've had loads done too! a crb check is only worth the paper its written on if you happen to have been cought doing the wrong thing and have a record!!

Well, it was only a customer service job for a cheque cashing company i had to get a credit check done too. They wouldn't let me near the safe until the check came back, but that was pretty much all I wasn't allowed to do!

One girl was with us for 6 weeks when hers came back, saying she had a caution for stealing. According to her, it was for a chocolate bar when she worked at sainsbury's, which I thought was bollocks. It didn't help her case that 1) she hadn't mentioned it in the interview or anything 2) money had gone missing from her till - we thought she had overpaid on a cheque - and 3) she had blatantly gotten the CRB back about 3 weeks earlier, but had held on to it.

So, yeah, it would make more sense not to let people work until all the checks are done!

Why do people vote? TO get the government to act. Its there job TO DO somthing so that people ARE NOT abused in the first place! Lol
Its THEIR fault for letting ANYONE take these jobs.
Solution?
Increase the pay for a start for the dedicated carers and enforce training for even the basic of carers. You cant just walk into a job as a carer looking after human lives with no training, its ridiculous....Mcdonalds workers get more training for sweeping the floor.

Ive had many CRB checks done to and in ALL cases they let me start the job (somtimes i was their 3 months) before the results came back! I could have been a fkn lunatic for all they knew! Yet i was left alone in charge of people and their lives! Dear oh dear, is the world thick or what.
