Why did you replace browseui.dll in the first place? I haven't been on a Windows lately..I chill with Ubuntu. Umm...If you can't get a system restore and can't change it by switching the file back, save what you can and format. You should never try anything like switching files before backing up your entire registry and system32 files. I learned that the heard way.

I was following instructions i had the original backed up and when i put it back i still couldnt get onto Control Panel.
i can't reformat i never got a disk with this computer so it would cost ?50 to get it done and i dont have any money at all.

Wait for people like Pete and jonnythan to come on. I think they'll be able to help you out. And a format over here is only 20 bucks.

Pffft, I could re-install windows blindfolded But as Jonnythan said, sfc /scannow will suffice to put back any missing system files, thought you couldn't delete certain files that were vita to Windows?

Try it in safe mode.

If it still doesn't work, you need to get your hands on an OS disk.

I left and came back while it was running the verification process or something and by the time i came back it was gone... i figured it was finished so i restarted my computer and it fixed nothing
f***ing stupid i can't believe this is happening.
just dont know what to say really just pissed off and annoyed. i need to get about 90GB of files backed up to somewhere and then i need to get vista premium or even XP (but not vista basic i would rather drink bleach than use that again as my main OS)
i may look into linux for real this time actually

What are you pissed off at?

Surely you realize that when you go about deleting and replacing core operating system files, you run the risk of hosing your OS.

Before you go modifying protected system files, you need to prepare yourself for the very likely possibility that you will kill your OS and have to reinstall it.

If you don't want to be faced with that, then don't delete or replace core system files.

Cause i would rather do something more productive.
I'v downloaded linux and i figure if i dual boot i can still use windows for games. ( the control panel and stuff is the only real problem.
and yeah i know this is totally my fault and theres noone i can blame it on anyone.
well im about to install Ubuntu so umm, wish me err..luck perhaps?

Himself, for being a numpty?

Once, with XP i used a restore disk from a different compy to repair a friends laptop, it was a long and complex process that included sort of fooling microsoft that her hardware hash was supposed to go with my version of windows, what im getting at is have you tried that? Would it be possible with vista?

I'd strongly recommend that you do a full backup of everything you don't want to lose before you go installing another OS.
