I got a suggestion to try a website called phonezoo to find ringtones that might not be available through my provider. I looked up some websites from Yahoo! Answers as well and came up with https://www.myxer.com

I personally don't mind paying for my ringtones... it's just that I can never find what I want. I just want to know if these websites have any catches or hidden charges before I use them this once and never again.

Does anybody know anything about them?

I wouldn't do it, one time I stumbled across one of those free ringtone sites and ended up getting automatically signed up for some ringtone thing that cost $15/month, and tmobile couldn't reverse the charges

You're subscribing to a reoccurring monthly service usually, like free ringtones, or weekly/daily horoscopes by text message or something. You really have to read the fine print with those sites, because you are always signing up for *something*, you just have to take the time to find out what it is. It's usually in the "terms and conditions" you have to check before they'll send you anything. Read it.

What about myxer?

I honestly prefer to get ringtones through my provider... it's just that I'm dying to get this Mulan ringtone and it's just not available.

If it makes any difference...

Since my previous provider charged me $200+ for my cell phone when my plan was just $60 something... I asked for a service where everything get's paid for in advance and I don't get charge unless I pay for something first.

So I have to add money to an account to purchase ringtones, send emails, text messages, or go over my minutes...

Can that sort of plan be charged?

This part of their terms of use concerns me:

"If you choose to purchase content from Myxer, all payments must be made by you through a charge to your cell phone bill, by a PayPal account, or credit card (VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover Card). We do not accept cash, checks or any other payment form. AS BETWEEN YOU AND MYXER, YOU, AND NOT MYXER, ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING ANY AMOUNTS FOR SERVICES BILLED TO YOUR PHONE, PAYPAL ACCOUNT, OR CREDIT CARD BY A THIRD PARTY WHO HAD ACCESS TO THESE ACCOUNTS, WHETHER OR NOT SUCH AMOUNTS WERE AUTHORIZED BY YOU. You agree to pay all fees and charges incurred in connection with your services (including any applicable taxes) at the rates in effect when the charges were incurred. If Myxer does not receive payment from your credit card issuer or its agent, you agree to pay all amounts due upon demand by Myxer."

seems a little weird to me.

That concerns me too... but all of the posters on Yahoo! Answers have said that they've never incurred any charges.

Up to you. But just be aware that if any charges were to show up, that clause would mean you would have no legal recourse but to pay it.

I really don't want to risk it... I just really wish I could get this ringtone.

I have used phonezoo and liked it. I was never charged anything for it. I wasn't able to find alot of things on there that I liked to download but if you have the music on your computer already you can make the ringer yourself and decide on what part of the song to download. The only thing that is bad now with Phonezoo is that you cannot use it if you are on Alltel. Which is the only reason I don't use it anymore.

Sorry I didn't see this thread sooner...I have used phonezoo a million times. It is completely free, and I have never had any trouble at all with it. I love it! I noticed a slight increase in the spam email I receive, but that it about it, and that's going to happen with just about every site you sign up on.

Why pay? Does your phone support mp3? Why not just use an mp3 you own (or rip one from a CD you own). It will sound good and it's free.

Geez ppl i use myxer and it isnt hard to figure out..its easier to go use the site with a computer so u can really see whats up theres is a lot of free ringtones there and wallpapers and even aps now if it isnt free it plainly says so right under the item u want it will say 0.00 <<<<FREE other wise itll say 1.50 or something like that now if you dont have unlimited internet on your phone thats a different story your provider charges you for data usage but if u got unlimited internet its not a problem from the site u sign up enter your phone number and provider..once youve done all that u look through all the stuff find all the free stuff u want ..one at a time of course send to phone ..you will then recieve a free text with a link follow the link and BAMM!! free download instantly i myself have downloaded over 200 ringtones and about 1000 wallpapers so yea its not that big a deal to use myxer unfortunatly** not all providers support myxer and it depends on your phone to if the site has support for it about phonezoo im just looked into it and well its almost exaclty the same thing ..although i havnt tried it my phone isnt supported keep in mind your phones have to be able to support downloads over 300Kb if it doesnt you will have a hard time finding ringtones that will work on your phone unless you just go the route of creating your own with myxer theres also the option to cut existing ringtones shorter ..i have used it for a long time and it hasnt changed much since i stardted using it but ofc i cant read the future they might change alot sooner or later as everything else does.
