Someone told me that they heard that by 2020, we'll have run out of resources.

How valid do you think that is?

I don't think so.
From what I've seen, more and more people aren't so hyped to have kids; more people don't want any.

In our life times, I don't think that's going to happen.

id guess that we have a few generations before we actually start to feel the resource pinch... another 2 or 3 before we are in real trouble...

before we start to run out though?... well, we are already beginning to run low on things like fossil fuels...

2012 is supposed to be a new beginning for us all...so I really think that we will be fine someway or another.

Omg, there is this whole new window of opportunity right before us.

My technology teacher was lecturing us on this one subject of gas stations turning into "charging stations".
Tesla (and one other scientist in the 60s I believe) were concerned about fossil fuels, and they actually came up with the first ideas for "rechargeable cars". But another scientist said:
"Hey, instead of charging it, why not replace it."

The idea is:

You pull into something that looks like a gas station.
You pay for the new battery (which the cost is unknown)
A robotic arm comes out, takes off the battery, puts it into a charging room/facility.
Then the arm puts in a new battery, you drive away.

One cent is supposedly to give you one mile.

THAT would be perfect.

however, I didn't catch the whole thing, but that is the basic gist of it.

It'll all still be here for the rest of our lifetimes and beyond. Maybe a little more expensive but still here.

By 11 years there won't be that dramatic a difference.

The issue is an economic one, resources and oil getting expensive and effecting the global economy not an issue of things actually running out.
The world is not turning into madmax.

We have a lot of alternatives on the horizon now too, from nuclear to wind and wave power, we'll have to readjust what we do and how we act and be more economical but society is not grounding to a halt.

Who knows what troubles are ahead but we will not run out of resources for quite some time.

2012 is not anything but random superstition and mass gullibility.

Currently there are aproximately 6.7 billion people on the earth. Taking into consideration current trends in births and deaths, it will increase by about 1 billion by 2020. Not enough to totally deplete current resources.
There are more undiscovered oil and gas reserves than there are producing wells.
I would be more concerned about the trends to move agrcultural lands to other uses, it will make food very expensive.
